Tulsi Gabbard abruptly announces she will not seek reelection to her congressional seat. Uh oh.

Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a Democratic White House contender, announced early Friday that she will not seek reelection to Congress, declaring that she was “fully committed to my offer to serve” as president.

“I’m so grateful to the people of Hawaiʻi for allowing me to serve you in Congress for the last 7 years. Throughout my life, I’ve always made my decisions based on where I felt I could do the most good,” Gabbard wrote in a series of tweets posted at midnight, which included a video message and a link to a lengthy statement.

“In light of the challenges we face, I believe I can … best serve the people of Hawaiʻi & our country as President and Commander-in-Chief,” she continued.

Story Continued Below
Gabbard, who has represented Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District since 2013, handily defeated her Republican opponent in last year’s midterm elections by a margin of more than 50 percent.

But her path to winning a fifth term in 2020 was complicated by a formidable primary challenge from state Sen. Kai Kahele, as well as her thorny relationships with other Aloha State politicians.

Kahele has been garnering a lot of support from around Hawaii so that may certainly have factored into Gabbard’s decision, but it could also be related to something that Hillary Clinton said recently:

“They’re also going to do third-party again,” Clinton said. “I’m not making any predictions, but I think they’ve got their eye on someone who’s currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate. She’s the favorite of the Russians. They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her so far.”

Hillary did not come right out and name Gabbard, but it was enough to get her to reveal her true nature on Twitter:

Yeah, that is not at all how Democratic presidential candidates talk about a former candidate who also served as both a Senator and First Lady.

Of course Gabbard would suggest that this is all conspiratorial thinking on our part, but then there is also this from Fox News

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, echoed the frustrations of many Republicans over a perceived lack of transparency in the handling of the impeachment inquiry led by House Democrats.

Appearing on “Hannity” Thursday, the presidential candidate said she originally supported the inquiry, but she stressed the need for transparency.

“I don’t know what’s going on in those closed doors,” Gabbard said. “We as members of Congress do not have access to the information that’s being shared. I think the American people deserve to know exactly what the facts are, what the evidence is being presented as this inquiry goes on.”

She also expressed concerns that a hyper-partisan impeachment inquiry would “tear apart” the country. “I’ve long expressed my concern about going through impeachment proceedings in a very, very partisan way because it will only further tear apart an already divided country.”

That is also not the way that a Democratic candidate for president talks. Ever.

Now I am not certain that Gabbard will launch a third party candidacy, but the signs are certainly pointing in that direction.

I will say however that if you are a Democrat who is thinking about voting for her that you are a fucking moron, as well as a tool of the Kremlin.

I just thought you should know that.

“Yeah, that is not at all how Democratic presidential candidates talk about a former candidate who also served as both a Senator and First Lady.

Ohhhh? But Former candidates, Senators, and First Ladies can feel free to basically call someone a Russian asset? Try to undermine their candidacy?

Just remember, that former candidate, Senator, and First Lady had everything handed to her on a silver platter and the system rigged so she’d be the nominee. And she is the reason we are stuck with Donald Trump.

    • Anon October 25, 2019 at 3:14 pm

Rick? Do they call you Dick tOO?

    • Anonymous October 25, 2019 at 3:40 pm

I am quite frankly sick of her, Rick. Yeah yeah, free speech and all that, but sounds like sour grapes three years later as does $arah Palin eleven.

    • Anony Moose October 25, 2019 at 4:10 pm

Dummyfuck (Rick), Clinton’s comment was clearly aimed at the Russians and their planned strategy. It was NOT aimed AT Gabbard, nor did her comments say that Gabbard was complicit in this attention from the Russians. Yes, Gabbard is CLEARLY an unwitting asset to the Russians. But please, do go on with your hysteria and spread the false Fox meme! You be you!

      • Rick October 25, 2019 at 6:03 pm

Is that all you have Anony Moose? Name calling? No facts? Just your feelings?

And for the Record, I don’t watch FOX and I’m not a Republican. So your FOX meme meme is pointless. The only one getting hysterical is you. Go hug your emotional support animal. I’m guessing it’s a worm.

        • Anony Moose October 25, 2019 at 8:29 pm

LOL. The facts are in Clinton’s statement. Don’t be so lazy. If you don’t remember, Google it. Whether you watch Fox or not, that IS the false meme they are pushing. Did I hit a nerve with the “hysteria” remark. Sorry about that.

Seen on Twitter “Tulsi Gabbard is the Sarah Palin of Michelle Bachmans”

    • HRH October 25, 2019 at 3:24 pm

Fabulous! Thanks for that; made my day.

Also TG is the Jill Stein of 2020.

  3. FFFTrump October 25, 2019 at 2:30 pm

Gryph, you once wrote some VERY negative things about HRC. Now, everyone is allowed to move on from the past, but really, nothing Tulsi said was “out there.” Most don’t trust the Clintons.

    • Anony Moose October 25, 2019 at 8:30 pm

If most didn’t trust HRC, she wouldn’t have won the popular vote by 3 million.

  4. Anonymous October 25, 2019 at 2:50 pm

    Considering she’s a 4th tier candidate, YAWN.
Here are her numbers as of 9/30:

Watch the money, as they say. You’ll know where it’s coming from.

    • Dead Lake October 25, 2019 at 6:19 pm

      Numbers remind me SarahPAC $1M.
You used it for what, exactly, until she drained it down to $0.00.

  5. anon October 25, 2019 at 2:50 pm

    Not seeking reelection? Gee.
The real question is whether she is going to become a lobbyist for mother russia or a lobbyist for turkey.
Don’t forget to register! Ask all those rethugs going to prison for violating the FARA.

    • HRH October 25, 2019 at 3:25 pm

Or Syria. She just loves her some Assad.

  6. WA Skeptic October 25, 2019 at 2:54 pm

Everyone knew she was a right-wing plant. Disguised as a Democrat, she exhibits all the Rethuglican temperment.

    • Anony Moose October 25, 2019 at 8:32 pm

      True that!

  7. nanna October 25, 2019 at 3:22 pm

You mentioned Hillary Clinton was a senator and that her husband was once the president… isn’t Hillary Clinton’s full presidential term as Secretary of State worth mentioning?

    You need to check yourself.

    • Anonymous October 25, 2019 at 4:00 pm

Well, nanna, I still say it was her consolation prize agreed on to back off in 2008.
No need to be rude to Gryph.

      • nanna October 25, 2019 at 10:17 pm

Not interested in your bitchy theory, nobody cares if you believe Barack Obama or not- least of all him.

It was sexist, plain and simple. Had it been John Kerry, in among the “former candidate” and “senator” Gryphen would have mentioned Secretary of State before husband of a world-famous name brand.

        • Anonymous October 26, 2019 at 4:50 am

Who’s being the rude one here, nanna? Gryph has championed Hillary from the get-go, and, for what seems to be am honest-to-god mistake of omission, you jump down his throat? Perhaps YOU are the one that needs to “check yourself.”

          • nanna October 26, 2019 at 8:05 pm

So your argument is that Gryphen “honest-to-god” clean forgot that Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State during those four difficult post-Bush years? Is that it?

  8. Anonymous October 25, 2019 at 3:27 pm

    $arah Palin 101.
How to become rich and infamous without raising a finger.

    • Anon October 25, 2019 at 3:49 pm

Sell out to Russia. EZ peasy.

      • Anonymous October 25, 2019 at 4:10 pm

        Hopefully she can memorize better.

  9. Anony Moose October 25, 2019 at 4:12 pm

Gabbard knows she has no chance to be the DNC candidate. She is auditioning for a Fox News talking head (token person of color). That explains it all, doesn’t it?

    • nanna October 25, 2019 at 10:20 pm

      There’s a Shep-Smith-sized vacancy at Fux.

  10. Anonymous October 25, 2019 at 4:39 pm

I read that Hillary actually said Republicans, not russians, either way they sure are all for Tulsa.

I really had to laugh because Tulsa’s response to Hillary was so over the top, she looks very guilty and she also made it sound like the primary was between Hillary and herself in one of her tweets.

    • Anonymous October 25, 2019 at 5:17 pm

She did say that. What is Tulsi now, 2%? 4%?
      Already playing the victim card.
      Be warned.

Trump Goes Full Crazy And Releases 2020 Attack Ad Against Hillary Clinton

    • Anonymous October 26, 2019 at 7:42 pm

Does he think he’s running against her again?

  12. anonymous October 25, 2019 at 6:17 pm

    Perfect, perfect, perfect….

Trump sounded broken as he addressed reporters outside of the White House as all he could do was repeat perfect call and no pressure.

William Barr Is Neck-Deep in Extremist Catholic Institutions

His troubles don’t only involve his obeisance to Donald Trump. He’s a paranoid right-wing Catholic ideologue who won’t respect the separation of church and state.

  14. anonymous October 25, 2019 at 6:24 pm

What a powerful and well-deserved rebuke. Imagine all the things he would say to Donald if given the chance.

  15. Anonymous October 25, 2019 at 6:44 pm

I would really like it if people stopped using the position of First Lady as some sort of qualification for other elected offices. It’s an honorary position wherein the holder selects their projects to be carried out by staffers. HRC didn’t even have a security clearance while her husband was in office.

    • Anonymous October 25, 2019 at 8:12 pm

She was a SENATOR and a SECRETARY OF STATE.

  16. Anonymous October 25, 2019 at 8:17 pm

In order for Tulsi Gabbard to be a third party spoiler she would have to be capable of drawing enough votes to skew the results.

She’s doing extremely poorly in the Democratic field. She’d have better luck drawing those that won’t vote for Trump and can’t bring themselves to vote for the Democratic nominee. In which case she’ll hurt Trump more.

You’d think someone would be smart enough to realize that.

    • Patricia Olmstead October 25, 2019 at 10:28 pm

You are correct! I immediately thought the same thing.
She’s doing the Dems a favor if she runs a third party campaign.
