President Donald Trump on Friday said he was ordering “our great American companies” to “immediately start looking for an alternative to China, including bringing your companies HOME and making your products in the USA.”

Trump also said he was ordering all U.S. postal carriers, including FedEx, Amazon, UPS and United States Post Office, “to SEARCH FOR & REFUSE all deliveries of Fentanyl from China (or anywhere else!).”

The White House did not immediately respond when asked if the announcement, delivered in a four-part Twitter thread Friday morning, constituted an official order from the president.

It was not immediately clear how or under what authority the president could implement these declared orders, or whether he had already done so.

This is apparently in response to China’s declaration that they would slap retaliatory tariffs on 75 billion in US imports.

Which of course is their reaction to Trump’s tariffs directed at their country.

I would suggest that somebody needs to remind Trump that he is a president and not an emperor, able to order his subjects around at will, but considering that he just called himself the King of Israel and the “Chosen One” I somehow doubt he is able to be reasoned with anymore.

Though this news might get his attention.

Stocks ended sharply lower Friday as the U.S.-China trade war intensified further, after President Donald Trump said he’s ordering American companies to start looking for “an alternative to China,” while readying additional measures after Beijing imposed retaliatory tariffs on imports of U.S. goods.

The Dow ended more than 600 points lower by the time the markets closed.

That is the kind of news that might shake even the most ardent Trump-supporting business conservative.
