Trump claims it would be “appropriate” for his Attorney General to launch investigation into potential political rival.

No, it is not.

President Donald Trump told POLITICO on Friday that it would be “appropriate” for him to speak to Attorney General Bill Barr about launching an investigation into his potential 2020 rival, Joe Biden, or his son, Hunter.

“Certainly it would be an appropriate thing to speak to him about, but I have not done that as of yet. … It could be a very big situation,” Trump said in a 15-minute telephone interview on Friday afternoon, which stemmed from POLITICO’s inquiries for a separate story.

Barr also drew attention during his recent congressional testimony when he demurred on a question about whether anybody in the White House had ever suggested that he launch an investigation.

This is all connected to that now canceled Ukraine trip by Rudy Giuliani who was openly seeking help to find dirt on Joe Biden and his son.

The claim is that Joe Biden pressured the Ukrainian government to oust a prosecutor in order to benefit his son.

However there is no actual evidence to support that, and the whole thing smacks of another Benghazi like molehill that the Trump folks are desperate to build into a mountain.

Using the Justice Department to “investigate” and then smear a potential political rival is both illegal and immoral.

In other words, there is nothing to stop Trump from doing it.

“That’s not going to happen, and I don’t think this country could survive another four years of a president like this who gets up every day and tries to find new and different ways to divide us. He doesn’t seem to understand that a fundamental aspect of his job is to try to make us a more perfect union, but that’s not at all where he’s coming from, and he’s going to be defeated. He has to be defeated because I don’t know how much more our democratic institutions can take of this attack on the rule of law.”
