Trump advisers more worried about Elizabeth Warren than any other candidate.

And they should be.

Courtesy of Business Insider:

President Donald Trump’s advisers are more worried about the rise of Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren than any other 2020 Democratic contender, The New York Times’ Maggie Haberman reported.

Trump, who frequently derides Warren as “Pocahontas,” is apparently convinced he can “hate-tweet her away,” but his advisers don’t share that view.

They also “see her ability to capitalize on the populist/outsider energy he ran on in 2016 and has tried to recreate despite holding office,” Haberman wrote.

Warren is the best-known candidate who has not previously run for president and considered to be a strong general-election contender against Trump.

She also overlaps considerably with the bases of Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and former Vice President Joe Biden. Insider polling found that 50% of Biden supporters and 57% of Sanders supporters would also be happy with Warren as the Democratic nominee.

As I posted earlier Elizabeth Warren is also the strong second choice for supporters of the three candidates to drop out most recently, Jay Inslee, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Seth Moulton.

So it makes sense that Trump’s advisers are worried about her becoming the Democratic candiate.

I think that Trump himself believes his main worry is Joe Biden, probably because his misogyny refuses to accept that a woman could beat him, but I also think that Warren is the person he should fear the most.

As I have said before whether or not she wins the nomination is up for debate, but the question of whether she SHOULD win the nomination I think is obvious.

Rush of major retailers follow Walmart in taking a stand against open carry of guns in stores

Four more major retailers are quickly following in Walmart’s footsteps by asking customers to not open-carry guns in their stores. On Tuesday Walmart announced it would no longer sell some types of ammunition, and was asking customers to not bring guns into stores.

By Thursday, Walgreens and CVS pharmacies, and Kroger and Wegmans supermarkets announced they too were asking customers to no longer enter their stores openly-carrying guns, according to the Executive Director of Guns Down America.

Since @Walmart announced it was ending open carry in its stores on Tuesday…@kroger@Walgreens @Wegmans @CVSHealth

    have all followed suit

This is a great start, but America’s employers must go even further in order to keep their employees &customers safe

People Like Meghan McCain Are Why Americans Keep Dying

It starts with loving guns more than you love other people

II am doing the world a disservice by paying any attention to Meghan McCain, America’s foremost faildaughter and the kind of lead-brained opportunist who’s cashing in on the troll economy while pretending to be completely unaware of such practices. But ABC pays McCain nearly a million bucks a year to sit stage right on The View and serve as a now-mandatory wingnut counterbalance to other hosts who believe in things like, oh, I dunno, common sense. They want her to draw eyeballs by maximizing her wanton jackassery, and it works. It’s effective, and you could argue that it’s potentially fatal.
Normally, McCain uses her luxe pulpit to remind you that she’s a hilariously transparent nepotism case who gets sad when Ilhan Omar is allowed to speak in public. But this week, in her return from an almost certainly needless vacation, McCain blitzkrieged ahead and used the recent spate of mass shootings in Texas to brandish her gun cred and warn her co-hosts about a coming uprising should anyone dare touch her precious, presumably rhinestone-encrusted AR-15. Here’s how she opened her diatribe, according to the Daily Beast story linked above:
Moments later, McCain weighed in as the “chick on the panel that spent most of her break shooting.”
OMG, she called herself a “chick”! That chick don’t give a shit about bein’ politically correct! She also drinks whiskey! In her Hollywood home! WOW. A real woman of a chick! This is what happens when someone models their public image off Cameron Diaz’s character from There’s Something About Mary. “I love football, y’all!”
Gun nuts don’t even bother with the thoughts and prayers anymore. They never think. They never pray.
I would tell you this is a harmless front, but it’s not at all harmless when the moral urgency of addressing gun violence enters the conversation. Instead of expressing anger and frustration that the United States refuses to enact gun control legislation that has proven to save lives everywhere else, McCain instead doubled down on her tough-gal horseshit.
“I will say this is a ground-level issue for me… If you’re going to be a gun-grabber, you don’t get my vote, period. We got to have a different conversation.”
Why? Who says you get to make the rules? Gun nuts love to brag about their intractability, and they’ve been able to get away with doing so in the wake of every mass shooting this century. They don’t even bother with the thoughts and prayers anymore. They never think. They never pray. All they want to do is posit themselves as righteous protectors of the Second Amendment, and they have no shortage of lemmings willing to follow their example, dig in their heels, and continue letting people die. CHICKS DIG THE LONG BARREL.
“The AR-15 is by far the most popular gun in America, by far.”
Who fucking cares? That’s not a good thing. The RDS-220 hydrogen bomb is the most powerful nuclear weapon on the planet, gang. We can’t just not use it! That would be depriving ourselves!
“I was just in the middle-of-nowhere Wyoming. If you’re talking about taking people’s guns from them, there’s going to be a lot of violence.”
Whoa, hey, that’s great! Thanks for the heads-up there, Meggo! Please note that this kind of rhetoric — a kind of indirect terrorist threat, really — is hardly uncommon from the alt-right. The president himself warned of sectarian violence if Republicans lost the midterms. (They did and there wasn’t.) Donald Trump and Meghan McCain are both secluded cowards who love talking up the potential of violence should things not break their way.
I don’t need to tell you that such violence is already here. All the time. According to Vox, the United States has more guns than people, and there have been 2,000 mass shootings since the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre of 2012. Nothing gets done about it, and nothing will get done. This is because of gun companies and because of the NRA. But, perhaps even more so, it’s because of complete fucking assholes like McCain, Trump, and other blackened souls from that bloc. That violence they’re promising? They’ve already delivered it. They’re paid to deliver it. They can pretend that all 2,000 of these mass shootings have been anomalous cases of men gone haywire in ways no one could have prevented or foretold. But every single fucking day, people like McCain are encouraging people to hoard guns and to use them. And then they have the temerity to act surprised when those people do. Maybe instead of issuing violent promises disguised as empty warnings, these loons could pay attention to what the bloodshed our current reality is already telling everyone. But I doubt any of them have the brains or courage to do so. (Disclosure: Though you gun nuts out there might declare otherwise, I have indeed fired myself a few guns.)
What McCain said on the air is a fireable offense. Going on TV and telling people there will be violent consequences for trying to reduce gun violence is both pathetic and irresponsible, two traits McCain displays in great measure every time she opens her piehole. She goes on…

“I’m not living without guns… It’s just that simple!”
Well, aren’t you just the model of bravery. When McCain got challenged by her cohorts, she went right to the cliché rack:
“I love being virtue-signaled 20 minutes into the show.”
This is where the United States is now. Sudden violence is rampant. And if you implore others to help prevent it through painfully obvious means, you are just pretending to care. Here’s something just that simple: People like Meghan McCain love guns more than they love other people. You know what? It’s even lamer than that. They care more about being seen with guns than they care about other people. They use the blood on their hands as cheek blush. It’s a fucking crime. McCain and other gun nuts can bitch and moan all they like about the supposed PC police being mad about mass murder. But that shouldn’t, and won’t, ever absolve them in the part they’ve played in helping shape an America where no restaurant, movie theater, mall, school, or church is safe from well-armed men acting upon their most violent fantasies. They are guilty, and they deserve to have their zealotry shame them to the fucking grave. In the America they pitifully cling to, that grave is only one squeeze of an AR-15 away.

Gun control advocates are outraged over a Michigan high school spending $48 million on curved hallways and ‘wing-walls’ to prevent mass shootings

Reports that a Michigan high school is spending $48 million to redesign its buildings in an effort to thwart a potential mass shooting sparked outrage on Tuesday among proponents of gun control.

The Fruitport, Michigan school is building curved hallways, protective walls, and other safety features in response to recent mass shootings in schools, including at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida last year.

“One of the ideas of this curved hallway is to cut down on the line of sight of an active shooter,” the school’s superintendent, Bob Szymoniak, told NBC News in a segment that drew attention online. He added that the school added so-called “wing walls” for students to hide behind in the event of a shooting.

The NBC segment drew attention online, where many pointed out that school shootings have become frighteningly common. Some gun control advocates argued that schools are doing more to try to prevent mass shootings than the Republican leadership in Washington.

“Curved walls. Hiding places. Designed for our children to take cover. To deter active shooters. Schools are literally being redesigned because shootings have become so common — yet @senatemajldr still refuses to act,” California Governor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, tweeted in response to the story, laying blame on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

“The problem isn’t straight walls and not enough hiding places in schools,” one Twitter user wrote. “It’s the killings. Other countries don’t have curved-walled schools. You’re normalising the problem.”

Speaking of his cabal if cruel sociopaths…

Trump’s advisers believe their cruelty is a strength — but it’s a massive moral failure than can be used to defeat him

Cruelty, especially against nonwhite people, is one of the Trump regime’s guiding principles. Trump, his supporters, and enablers take great pleasure in hurting the weak, the sick and any other people they deem vulnerable. This is a function of “social dominance behavior,” a trait that is common to conservative-authoritarian personalities.

“the president was supposed to go to Poland this past weekend to commemorate the start of World War II 80 years ago this week. He canceled that trip at the last minute so, according to the White House, he could spend every minute of the holiday weekend monitoring Hurricane Dorian and leading the national response to Hurricane Dorian. The president then spent two days of the weekend golfing at his golf courses. Since he canceled his trip to Poland to instead stay home and golf/lead the hurricane response”
” The president then insisted that he has never heard of a Category 5 hurricane, and the experts have never seen anything like it. It’s brand-new. This is actually the fourth Category 5 hurricane to threaten the United States just since he’s been president. How is it that he thinks he has never heard of a Category 5 hurricane? ” ” the president is making stuff up about that, too.”

Elizabeth Warren Is Launching Her Own Investigation Into Pence’s Stay At Trump’s Ireland Resort

Massachusetts senator and 2020 Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren is demanding the State Department hand over any documents related to Vice President Mike Pence’s controversial trip to Ireland.

Trump, of course, essentially ordered Pence to stay at his Ireland resort during the trip – yet another example of the president using is his office for personal enrichment – and Warren wants answers.

“Potential violations of the Foreign and Domestic Emoluments Clauses of the Constitution are of significant interest and grave concern to the Committee as it considers whether to recommend articles of impeachment,””

Trump’s Sharpie-doctored hurricane map embodies the man

This doesn’t qualify as earth-shattering news at this point, but President Trump showed us again this week how spectacularly ignorant, vainglorious and obsessive he can be. This time, he did it with a clumsily doctored map.

    Alaska’s universal basic income problem
Alaska gives each resident a check every year. It’s cut poverty — and warped the state’s politics.

Since 1982, Alaska has been giving every woman, man, and child an annual chunk of its nest egg: the $66.3 billion Permanent Fund. Alaska deposits at least 25 percent of mineral royalties — revenue the state generates from its mines, oil, and gas reserves — into the fund annually. The money is in turn invested by the Alaska Permanent Fund Corporation in domestic and global stock, bonds, private equity, and more, and interest earnings are then distributed to Alaska residents every September.

Former Gov. Jay Hammond, the mastermind behind the fund, created the dividend system as a way to ensure Alaska’s nonrenewable resources could provide an everlasting return to the state. In his words, he “wanted to transform oil wells pumping oil for a finite period into money wells pumping money for infinity.” Paying out $1,000 to $2,000 per person per year — every Alaskan gets the same amount — was Hammond’s plan to protect the fund. If every Alaskan were a stakeholder in the Permanent Fund’s future, surely no politician could dismantle it without paying an electoral price.

For decades, Hammond’s system was an unprecedented success. But in 2015, plunging oil prices created major shortfalls in the state’s budget. In response, then-Gov. Bill Walker deviated from the traditional PFD formula and reduced the value of the check for 2016. Doing so allowed the government to continue funding state services and ensured the sustainability of the fund. Instead of a check for $2,052, as they would have received with the traditional formula, Alaskans that year got a comparatively paltry $1,022.
