Top military officials threaten to resign if Trump blocks them from disciplining Navy SEAL for war crimes.

Donald Trump keeps forgetting that he is not all-powerful and does not control everything.

The secretary of the Navy and the admiral who leads the SEALs have threatened to resign or be fired if plans to expel a commando from the elite unit in a war crimes case are halted by President Trump, administration officials said Saturday.

The Navy is proceeding with the disciplinary plans against the commando, Chief Petty Officer Edward Gallagher, who counts Mr. Trump as one of his most vocal supporters. After reversing a demotion in recent days, the president suggested on Thursday that he would intervene again in the case, saying that the sailor should remain in the unit.

The threats by the Navy secretary, Richard V. Spencer, and the commander, Rear Adm. Collin Green, are a rare instance of pushback against Mr. Trump from members of the Defense Department. Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper and Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, scrambled to come up with a face-saving compromise this past week in the hope that Mr. Trump could be persuaded to change his mind.

On Thursday, Mr. Trump, referring to the pin that signifies membership in an elite force, said on Twitter that “The Navy will NOT be taking away Warfighter and Navy Seal Eddie Gallagher’s Trident Pin.” He added: “This case was handled very badly from the beginning. Get back to business!”

One argument that officials said may be relied on is the assumption that a tweet does not constitute a formal presidential order. Mr. Esper and General Milley conveyed to the president that if he followed up that tweet with a direct order, there would be huge consequences: Mr. Trump would lose Mr. Spencer and Admiral Green, further infuriate his top military leadership and do untold damage to decades of military justice doctrine, according to administration officials.

Gallagher had been acquitted in a court-martial proceeding of shooting civilians, murdering a captive Islamic State fighter with a hunting knife in Iraq, and threatening to kill fellow Navy SEALS who reporteed him.

However he had been demoted for posing for pictures with a dead captive teenager.

That is what Donald Trump reversed at the same time that he issued pardons for a former Army lieutenant convicted of killing two civilians, and an Army Special Forces officer who was facing murder charges for killing an unarmed Afghan he believed was a Taliban bomb maker.

Many military members felt that Trump disrespected the military rule of law and undermined their credibility with these actions, and if he interferes again he may lose their confidence in his leadership altogether.

All I have to say is what took them so long to recognize how little respect he has for the US military members?

I mean he relentlessly attacked John McCain, a war hero, called four star general George Allen a “failed general,” insulted gold star families when they dared to criticize him, and stole moey from the military budget to build his bullshit wall.

I have no idea how anybody in the military continues to support him, especially after he abruptly pulled troops out of Syria leaving our bases for the Russians to take over, but hey at least they seem to have reached their limit with this.

At least let’s hope so.

I don’t see how threatening to resign is going to change Cadet Bone Spurs mind (if there is anything left of it). He could care less if they resign and all they are doing in ending their careers.

What does Cadet Bone Spurs have to do, for these people to understand he doesn’t give a damn about military justice.

Don’t forget he ripped off veterans with his bullshit checks and started a fight with the young and heavily pregnant brand new widow of a service member killed on a bungled exercise in Africa.

    He’s such a pigg.

Ginsberg is in the hospital again. Fever. Maybe cold or the flu. But whatever. HOLY SHIT! If she dies before Jan 20, 2020 Trump is going to nominate another Federalist Deplorable and Moscow Mitch will run them through asap. Trump will have put THREE supremes on the court. He absolutely will if he is re-elected.

Our only hope might be if the House votes to impeach before he can and enough Republican Senators can be convinced to refuse to hear any confirmations during the trial.

We are in a shitload of trouble.
