This is definitly going to get ugly.

Thousands of protesters kicked off the weekend ahead of threatened ICE raids with vigils, marches and rallies across the U.S.

On Friday, crowds rallied from New York to Colorado to California to protest the proposed mass roundup and detention of undocumented immigrants that President Donald Trump announced would commence over the weekend.

Beginning Sunday, federal immigration officers are scheduled to sweep across what was originally 10 cities (San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Denver, Miami, New Orleans, New York, Baltimore, Chicago and Atlanta) to arrest about 2,000 undocumented immigrants as outlined by President Trump. Because of Hurricane Barry, Houston and New Orleans, which were originally targeted in raids, will not see immigration enforcement actions, officials said.

This operation targets only undocumented immigrants with final removal orders, who will eventually be deported, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the matter. Significantly, the same official told ABC News, the operation will not arrest so-called collaterals, those people who happen to be with the targeted individuals.

“Due to law-enforcement sensitivities and the safety and security of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel, the agency will not offer specific details related to enforcement operations,” an ICE official told ABC News in a statement.. “As always, ICE prioritizes the arrest and removal of unlawfully present aliens who pose a threat to national security, public safety and border security.”

It is really that “threat” to border security portion that is the most problematic.

That means that ICE feels justified in rounding up any undocumented immigrant they want using the rational that their very presence in this country constitutes a threat to border security.

They seem completely ignorant of the fact that any undocumented immigrant that they deport who has a family in America, is going to turn right around and come back over the border, which means, if caught, they will end up in one of our heavily overcrowded concentration camps.

That seems like they are exacerbating an already out of control problem for no good reason other than it gives Trump’s racist supporters a temporary thrill to see Mexicans rounded up and taken away.

In short, this is pure bullshit.

It is such bullshit in fact that law enforcement in some of the targeted cities are actively refusing to cooperate.

Officials in cities such as New York, Denver, Atlanta, Miami and Washington, D.C. have spoken out against the planned federal raids and urging immigrants to learn about their rights and to prepare their families ahead of the raids. Although President Donald Trump has argued that the raids will focus on “criminals,” serval mayors and police departments have argued that the raids will erode the community’s trust in law enforcement and even discourage people from coming forward to report crimes or give witness testimony.

A number of police chiefs and mayors of these cities arr refusing to support ICE in these raids or to provide data about targets.

Gee it appears that Trump has turned law enforcement agencies against each other as well.

What a uniter.

Here in the San Francisco area, most undocumented immigrants do not live in SF but in cities such as Antioch, Concord, Turlock, Tracy, Lodi, etc. SF is way too expensive. I guess it just doesn’t sound as impressive when you say that ICE is going to raid Turlock. If there are raids in SF, it will have to be at businesses – mainly small businesses such as restaurants – which are employing these undocumented immigrants, thus destroying two republican positions:
    1) That republicans are supporters of small businesses;
    2) That ICE is only arresting people who are a danger to the U.S. Sure, because dish washers are such a menace to society.

Those that participate in such manners are usually the first one to be wore out. Put up wet.

        Unfortunately, just what they’re hoping.
Dissolve them into nothing. Bye bye, democracy, nice knowing you…..

Most days I feel the same way, Anon at 3:21 pm. Most of my “participation” these days is signing on-line petitions, supporting organizations I care about with small financial contributions, and reading the news (from such great sources as IM). I’ve aged out of carrying signs to protest this, that, or the other atrocity. But I sure don’t feel apathy; I can’t avoid worrying about the future. I grew up in the immediate aftermath of WW11 and what this administration is doing to poor, aspiring-immigrant people raises the spectre of Nazi Germany each and every day. It’s not so easy to dwell only on good times gone by.
