There are now so many mass shootings in this country that law enforcement is struggling to keep up.

So this is who we are now?

Courtesy of HuffPo:

Mass shootings have been on the rise for nearly two decades ― and they’re so prevalent that investigators are struggling to keep up.

Law enforcement agencies are grappling with the sheer number of active shooter investigations on their plates, FBI special agent in charge Christopher Combs said after a shooter killed at least seven people and wounded more than 20 others in West Texas on Saturday.

“If you look at the numbers, we’re looking at an active shooter every other week in this country,” Combs said, according to CNN.

An FBI study on active shooters reveals a similarly bleak trend. Incidents involving an active shooter ― which the FBI defines as “an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a populated area,” like schools and shopping centers ― increased between 2000 and 2018. And over the past two months, shooters have killed more than 40 people in Texas, Ohio and California.

The frequency of such attacks is wearing on investigators and government officials.

“I think it is frustrating for all of us in law enforcement that we keep having to do this,” Combs said. “For the FBI in particular, we do them across the country as a service to our state and local partners. It’s just getting worse.”

This is incredibly depressiong.

How is it that we call ourselves the most powerful nation on earth when we cannot even protect our own citizens from a constitutional amendment that clearly no longer makes sense in the modern world?

Ultimmatley background checks and banning certain weapons will not be enough.

To truly protect ourselves we will need to modify the 2nd Amendment, or failing that get rid of it altogether.

We simply cannot continue to live like this.

The NRA Threatens Walmart After It Stops Selling Handguns and Ammo

After Walmart announced that they were no longer selling handguns and ammo, the NRA responded by threatening the nation’s largest retailer.

    Walmart announced:
    – After selling through our current inventory commitments, we will discontinue sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the .223 caliber and 5.56 caliber that, while commonly used in some hunting rifles, can also be used in large capacity clips on military-style weapons;

    – We will sell through and discontinue handgun ammunition; and

    – We will discontinue handgun sales in Alaska, marking our complete exit from handguns.-

The NRA responded by threatening Walmart:

“Lines at Walmart will soon be replaced by lines at other retailers who are more supportive of America’s fundamental freedoms,” @NRA says in implicit threat to target Walmart customers

    — Josh Lederman (@JoshNBCNews) September 3, 2019

The NRA is once again greatly overestimating their power. All of their members could take their business elsewhere and it would be a drop the bucket for Walmart’s sales. Outside of Senate Republicans and Donald Trump, the NRA doesn’t scare anyone anymore.

If older Americans were going to save us from gun violence, they’d have done it already. Luckily millennials are the biggest 2020 voting bloc

…..Millennials and Gen-Z have grown up living the consequences of government inaction. When it comes to guns specifically, we’ve been forced to watch powerlessly as our schools, movie theaters, concert halls, food festivals, shopping centers, churches, nightclubs, synagogues, mosques, highways, and all other previously innocuous gathering places are transformed into war zones in the blink of an eye. It doesn’t have to be this way. There is hope.

If one thing is clear by now, it’s this: older generations aren’t going to save us from gun violence. If they were, they would have done so already. So, young people, it’s up to us, the mass shooting generations, to save ourselves. Go vote.

What other Amendments are you willing to throw out? Voting rights?

Should the US start horse trading on Amendments?

Mexico is a great example of some of the strictest gun laws in the world. Zero violence and zero homicides by firearms. Zero. Haven’t you heard?

A lack of gun control in the US is helping drive record levels of bloodshed in Mexico

Mexico is poised for another year of record homicides.

There are many factors behind the rise in lethal violence, but the largely unimpeded flow of weapons from the US has contributed to the killing.

The gun show loophole is lots like that ’80s SNL commercial for “Bad Idea Jeans”, wherein Kevin Nealon says, “I was going to use a condom, but then I thought, ‘when am I ever going to make it back to Haiti again’?”
