Three House committees leading Democrats’ impeachment probe issued new subpoenas to the secretary of defense and acting White House budget director, requesting documents about the decision to freeze military aid to Ukraine over the summer.

“The enclosed subpoena demands documents that are necessary for the Committees to examine this sequence of these events and the reasons behind the White House’s decision to withhold critical military assistance to Ukraine that was appropriated by Congress to counter Russian aggression,” the committees’ chairmen said in a release.

On Sunday, the attorneys representing the whistleblower who filed a complaint about President Trump’s dealings with Ukraine said they are representing “multiple whistleblowers” in connection to the case, including one with “first hand knowledge” of events.

“I can confirm that my firm and my team represent multiple whistleblowers in connection to the underlying August 12, 2019, disclosure to the Intelligence Community Inspector General,” attorney Andrew Bakaj tweeted Sunday. “No further comment at this time.”

Mark Zaid, another member of the first whistleblower’s legal team, also said the team is representing a second official with first-hand knowledge of events, as first reported by ABC News. The original whistleblower had not heard or seen a transcript of the phone call between Mr. Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the center of the August 12 complaint.

“I can confirm this report of a second #whistleblower being represented by our legal team,” Zaid tweeted. “They also made a protected disclosure under the law and cannot be retaliated against. This WBer has first hand knowledge.”

Currently the Republicans are scrambling to come up with talking points to dispute the severity of the case against their fearless leader, but their attempts are laughable.

Some are trying to suggest that Trump was not serious when he asked China or Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, while others are attempting to minimize the impeachment inquiry itself is unserious because Congress has not yet voted on an official impeachment probe.

The first excuse is simply ridiculous since Donald Trump does not have a humorous bone in his body.

The second argument is my favorite because while the Republicans act dismissively toward the inquiry the Democrats just keep gathering evidence and building a case that will convince every reasonable American that Donald Trump needs to be removed from office just as soon as humanly possible.

By the time the Republicans wake up to the threat that faces their president and their party, it will likely be much too late.

In the meantime the Democrats are taking extraordinary steps to ensure the anonymity of the whistleblowers.

House Democrats eager to protect a whistleblower who raised alarms over President Trump pressuring a foreign leader to investigate a political rival are considering testimony at a remote location and possibly obscuring the individual’s appearance and voice — extraordinary moves to prevent Trump’s congressional allies from revealing the identity, according to three officials familiar with the discussions.

Democratic investigators are concerned that without such rare precautions, Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee could learn and then leak the identity of the whistleblower, who has agreed to answer questions before the intelligence committees in both the House and Senate.

Democrats overseeing the logistics of the testimony for the House impeachment inquiry are discussing a location away from the Capitol as well as a staff-only session that would prevent lawmakers from attending and asking questions.

Aides have considered having the whistleblower testify from a separate location via a video hookup in which the camera would obscure the whistleblower’s image and alter his voice, possibly with modification technology. They also are talking about having the whistleblower sit behind a screen or partition. A third option being floated includes audio-only testimony.

This may seem a little extreme, but not in Donald Trump’s America.

If these whistlblower’s are identified they could lose their jobs, lose their hopes for future emloyment, and even lose their lives.
