Texas Republican Congressman whose district includes 820 miles of border pushes back on rump’s border wall.

Finally, a Republican House member who sees that the emperor has no clothes.

Courtesy of Rolling Stone:

Congressman Will Hurd of Texas is an increasingly lonely voice in the “build the wall” Republican Party of Donald Trump. A 41-year-old former undercover CIA officer, Hurd represents one of the largest congressional districts in America, Texas’ 23rd, a vast expanse of land roughly the size of Georgia that stretches from San Antonio to El Paso.

Hurd’s district includes 820 miles of the U.S.-Mexico border, more than any other member of the House of Representatives. But if you’re expecting Hurd, who was narrowly re-elected to a third term last year, to support President Trump’s “big, beautiful wall” and stand with the decision to partially shut down the federal government over the fight, you’ve got it all wrong. Trump’s border crisis is a “myth,” Hurd tells Rolling Stone, and a wall made of cement or steel slats is a “third-century solution to a 21st-century problem.”

“What I always say is building a wall from sea to shining sea is the most expensive and least effective way to do border security,” Hurd says.

He is one of the few Republicans to break ranks and vote with Democrats to approve funding to reopen the government. On Wednesday, he announced that he’d landed a coveted seat on the powerful Appropriations Committee, bringing the perspective of someone who actually knows the border to Congress’ main government-funding committee.

I probably disagree with this guy on just about everything else, after all, he is a Republican, but at least he recognizes the idiocy of Trump’s racist wall.

And it is almost certain that there are other house and Senate Republicans who will soon join him.

Which indicates that in this monumental game of “Who’ll blink first” between the House Democrats and Donald Trump, Trump’s eyelids are starting to get a little heavier.

Mr. Phillips is a veteran who fought for this spoiled marshmallow’s right to be a douche. I can imagine him curled up in the fetal position crying for mommy if he had to fight in a war.

Thank you for your post. I just read the story in your link and was horrified. That bullying group of young, clearly well-to-do, creepy caucasian snobs (probably drunk too) taunting and screaming at an elderly Native American who was performing a traditional religious ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery. I wish that everyone in that group of bullies had been arrested. They should have been. There is no place for that kind of blatant, racist behavior in a civilized society. And at a national military cemetery!

Everyone knows you build bridges not walls. Donald wants elysium. With all the cold winter storms in those states, maybe people better keep their option open for warmer places. I mean if americans had to go further south for warmth, they would be treated how they are currentlt treating people who are thinking of coming over here. Just saying.

I still haven’t heard anyone (not talking about the conspiracy theorist, trump supporters) that lives on the border that says the wall is a good idea. And to think all this mess is because little donnie couldn’t remember to talk about immigration.

That is, perhaps, the real irony. Don the Con couldn’t care less about any issue. But he knows that he’s invested so much of himself in the ignorant, crazy misunderstandings of the white uneducated Americans public that he’s terrified of being seen as the feeble, inadequate excuse for a human being that he is. And probably always has been.

Jeb’s Amerika “as the rest of the world gently mocked Jeb Bush, some conservative supporters in America showed their appreciation by tweeting pictures of handguns.”
