The fired Southern Baptist seminary leader who wanted to get an alleged rape victim alone to “break her down” also said it was a “good thing” she had been raped and that her future husband wouldn’t care if she was a virgin or not, according to the woman’s attorney.

Paige Patterson, a giant in the Southern Baptist world, was fired from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth on May 30 in response to his handling of sexual assault allegations. He had been pushed to president emeritus May 23.

The three alleged assaults took place in October 2014 and April 2015 and were reported in August 2015. The alleged assailant, according to the victim’s attorney, Stuart Cochran of Dallas, was a Southwestern student and employee.

“I am told he said it was a ‘good thing’ my client had been raped and that her future husband wouldn’t care if she was a virgin or not,” Cochran said of Paige in a statement to the Star-Telegram. “He threatened to sic lawyers on her [mother] for questioning his leadership at the school when she asked why the assailant was allowed on campus.”Cochran said that Patterson sent around an email calling the woman’s mother “nuts.”

I imagine he also berated the young lady for being attractive and leading her attacker to commit a sin.

Remember to the fundamentalist the woman is the reason for original sin, so everything that comes after will always be her fault.

Somehow I imagine that if this guy found himself slammed facedown on the ground while some huge guy had his way with him his opinion of rape would evolve immediately.

    OT? WTF>
A U.S. Senator from Oregon was turned away from a detention center for migrant children, including those separated from their parents at the U.S. border under a new immigration policy.

In a Facebook Live video on Sunday, Sen. Jeff Merkley walks up to a former Walmart in Brownsville, Texas, that has become a center to hold children detained at the border. In the video, he explains that his staff had sought permission to enter the facility, but that permission was declined by Homeland Security.

At the entrance to the facility, where the windows and doors are blacked out, he runs into a woman entering the facility who asks him to leave. He then requests to speak to a supervisor and waits outside for roughly 10 minutes. At that point, the police arrive, and soon after, the supervisor steps out of the facility, only to tell Merkley that he doesn’t have permission to talk about the center. Eventually, Merkley is asked to leave.

“When an organization has something to hide, not allowing members of congress to see it, in a democracy, is completely unacceptable,” Merkley said in an earlier Facebook Live video from the day. “What’s going on is an effort to prevent the press from being able to report to the American people what is happening. And that’s simply unacceptable.” ” in May, there were 10,773 children in custody, an increase of almost 2,000 from the previous month, before the policy was implemented.

“So far, as far as we know, no member of Congress has actually been allowed to see what’s going on with this program,” Merkley said in the Facebook Live video after being turned away from the facility.”
” “We have to push back in terms of saying that it’s unacceptable, publicizing that it’s unacceptable, allow[ing] policymakers, and allow[ing] the press to get inside and see what’s going on.”

Merkley, a Democrat, entirely opposes the policy, which has been criticized as inhumane. “[The migrants] have come from horrific circumstances, and then to be treated horrifically when they’re here, when they’re here in the United States, as a way to say don’t come and seek asylum, is just simply wrong,” he said in the video. “This isn’t zero tolerance; this is zero humanity.””

    “scripture engagement.”

“For Christians around the world, the American Bible Society represents a highly influential organization. With an annual budget of US$100 million and revenues of over $369 million, it is one of the largest religious nonprofits in the world. Its goal is to translate the Bible into every human language by 2025.”
“the ABS is calling an “Affirmation of Biblical Community,” requires employees to embrace a host of Christian beliefs and practices, including that marriage is between a man and a woman.”
