Remember hearing those guards were supposed to check on Epstein every 30 minutes?

Yeah, well that didn’t happen.

Corrections officers had not checked in on financier and registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein for “several” hours before he was found hanging in his cell Saturday, a person familiar with the matter said, just one in a series of missteps in the hours leading up to his death.

Officers should have been checking on Epstein, who was being held in a special housing unit of the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York City, every 30 minutes, and, under normal circumstances, he also should have had a cellmate, according to the person familiar with the matter and union officials representing facility employees.

But a person who had been assigned to share a cell with Epstein was transferred on Friday, and — for reasons that investigators are still exploring — he did not receive a new cellmate, the person familiar with the matter said Sunday night. That left Epstein, who had previously been placed on suicide watch, alone and unmonitored — at least in the hours before his death — by even those officers assigned to guard him.

So the most high profile prisoner in the jail, who had just tried to off himself a week or two earlier, was left on his own for hours with no monitoring whatsoever.

Yep nothing suspicious abou that.

It appears that the excuse for this is going to be overworked guards.

The two Manhattan jail guards who allegedly failed to monitor Jeffrey Epstein before he died had been working “extreme” overtime shifts amid a severe staffing shortage at the facility, reports said Sunday.

The unidentified jailers at the federal Metropolitan Correctional Center violated procedure by failing to check on Epstein every 30 minutes before he apparently committed suicide in his cell, sources told Reuters.

One guard was working his fifth straight day of overtime and the other was toiling under mandatory overtime, a person familiar with operations at the Lower Manhattan lockup told the Associated Press.

Oh, I see.

So the reason that a man with information that could possibly bring down some of the most powerful people in the country, as well as a sitting US president, is dead because the guards assigned to him were a little drowsy?

Is that what they are going with?

Okay well surely the autopsy will at least prove that he did indeed commit suicide, right?

The New York City medical examiner’s office said Sunday that it had completed an autopsy of the financier and accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein but that it needed more information before determining the cause of death.

Multiple people briefed on the investigation told NBC News that suicide remains the presumed cause of death and that no sign of foul play has emerged in the day and a half since Epstein, 66, was found unresponsive in his federal jail cell in lower Manhattan on Saturday.

What the shit?

Isn’t an autopsy the thing that they use to determine the cause of death?

I mean they find bodies at the bottom of rivers and determine the cause of death.

They find bodies that have decomposed for weeks in locked rooms and determine the cause of death.

But the cause of death for this guy locked in a cell in the middle of the city, with guards all around him, continues to elude them?

And if they do not know the cause of death, then how in the hell do they know it was definitly a suicide?

I am trying so hard not to go down the conspiracy theory path, but that is becoming almost impossible at this point.
