So why is Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg secretly meeting with Donald Trump in the White House?

I simply do not trust Mark Zuckerberg.

Courtesy of NBC News:

President Donald Trump hosted a previously undisclosed dinner with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook board member Peter Thiel at the White House in October, the company told NBC News on Wednesday.

The meeting took place during Zuckerberg’s most recent visit to Washington, where he testified before Congress about Facebook’s new cryptocurrency Libra. Zuckerberg also gave a speech at Georgetown University the week before, detailing his company’s commitment to free speech, and its resistance to calls for the company to crack down on misinformation in political advertisements.

“As is normal for a CEO of a major U.S. company, Mark accepted an invitation to have dinner with the President and First Lady at the White House,” a Facebook spokesperson said in an emailed statement.

A source familiar with the dinner told NBC News that Thiel was also present. It is unclear why the meeting was not made public or what Trump, Zuckerberg and Thiel discussed.

The White House declined to comment.

Keep in mind that this was happening during the same time that Zuckerberg was saying that he would not fact check political ads or block them for lying.

It seems especially concerning that he would be meeting with the one politician most likely to post ads that lie or spread misinformation at this time.

It certainly bothered Elizabeth Warren.

Yeah, she makes a very valid point.

I think Trump desperately needs Facebook to allow him to post lies and misinformation to his followers in order to have any hope of winning the 2020 election, so any secret meeting should raise concerns for all of us.

Time for another platform for boomers like me who like the concept of FB but not the bastardization and corruption of it. Anyone know of anything else? I guess instagram?
So sad we humans are. We have the greatest ideas which just repeatedly get ruined.
That’s why I often think of earth as an actual punishment for humans.
We probably come from some advanced world in this vast universe and given our penchant for fucking things up were sent here to fuck up to our hearts’ content, exiled from other advanced beings who do good with their powers.
I for one want to go back. I promise i will be good.

Zuckerberg purchased Instagram several years ago… they were becoming a threat to Facebook.

According to Wikipedia, Zuckerberg is worth $74 billion. Like Trump, Mark Z. is in the elite 1% income bracket and his bank account is what motivates him, not the veracity of Russian sponsored political ads. Trump probably wants to get in on Zuckerberg’s 2020 cryptocurrency scam. This boy genius is still a turd.

~IT~ very much is a legal proceeding with historic consequences for the future of America’s democracy.

““A group of Republican senators and senior White House officials met privately … to map out a strategy.”

Well, that raises no questions whatsoever.”

“Republicans have already decided how they ar going to acquit Trump. This will be a complete sham.”

“Autocrats have learned how to use those same online tools to shore up their power,” he added. “They flood the world of information with garbage and lies, masquerading as news. There’s a phrase for that.”

Baron Cohen said, according to his prepared remarks. “And to be clear, when I say ‘racism, hate and bigotry’ I’m not referring to the names of Stephen Miller’s Labradoodles.”
“All this hate and violence is being facilitated by a handful of internet companies that amount to the greatest propaganda machine in history,”
“It’s like we’re living in the Roman Empire, and Mark Zuckerberg is Caesar,” he said at one point. “At least that would explain his haircut.”
“ludicrous,” Baron Cohen said, “This is not about limiting anyone’s free speech. This is about giving people, including some of the most reprehensible people on earth, the biggest platform in history to reach a third of the planet. Freedom of speech is not freedom of reach. Sadly, there will always be racists, misogynists, anti-Semites and child abusers. But I think we could all agree that we should not be giving bigots and pedophiles a free platform to amplify their views and target their victims.”
“Cohen concluded by saying that “if we prioritize truth over lies, tolerance over prejudice, empathy over indifference and experts over ignoramuses” then “maybe, just maybe, we can stop the greatest propaganda machine in history, we can save democracy…”

“I’ll tell you we have to stand with Hong Kong but I’m also standing with President Xi. He is a friend of mine he is an incredible guy,”
“I would like to see them work it out. We have to see them work it out,” he added.

Trump cast his relationship with Xi as the bulwark keeping China from moving against the pro-democracy movement that has rocked Hong Kong during almost six months of increasingly violent protests.

He added that a “million soldiers standing outside of Hong Kong are not going only because I asked him: ‘Please don’t do that. You will be making a big mistake. It will have a tremendous negative impact on the trade deal.’”

The missing tie is just one signifier of Yang’s tech bro identity. ”
“He’s not alone. Billionaires Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg have expressed support for a universal basic income; Musk has even endorsed Yang’s campaign. “
