The Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee has subpoenaed President Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., to answer questions about his claim to have just limited knowledge of an ultimately aborted plan to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, Russia, NBC News reported Wednesday.

Trump Jr. testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee in September 2017 that “I was peripherally aware” of an effort to build that project in Russia, which was being pursued as his father was a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. That effort was not known to the public at the time.

But President Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen in February told a House committee that he had met with both Donald Trump Jr. and his sister, Ivanka Trump, “approximately 10” times to brief them about the Trump Tower plan.

This is big news because it marks the first time that any of the Trump family members have been issued a subpoena, and also because it is coming from a Republican-led committee which means that Trump cannot characterize it as a partisan attack.

It will be interesting to watch and see if Trump demands that Junor ignore this subpoena and prepare to fight it in court.

Currently, Trump is refusing to cooperate with any of the Democratically-led House committees, so it will be interesting to see if that defiance extends to the Senate Republicans as well.

Trump could actually find himself at war with both the House Democrats as well as the Senate Republicans at the same time.

More popcorn anyone?

Are they calling him in so that donnie jr can spin more LIES? I am sure the republicans met with trump ahead of time and they are planning something to “clear” donnie jr. The problem for donnie jr is he isn’t very bright and may still incriminate himself even further. Also if this meeting was a big nothing, why did they spin the story it was about adoptions?

Why didn’t they subpoena ivanka at the same time if she was present for those briefings?

You do realize Cohen is starting a 3 year prison term, essentially for being a pathological liar don’t you?

If Trump knew about the Senate Intelligence Committee’s plan to subpoena his son, he would have squashed it. The president would have gotten Mitch McConnell involved to kill the subpoena. The fact that Trump’s White House chief of staff had no advance notice suggests that the Republicans on the Senate Intelligence Committee wanted to keep the subpoena a secret.

Innocent presidents don’t have subpoenas dropped on them by committees run by their own party.

““I was very surprised to see my son,” Trump explained. “My son is very good person. He works very hard. The last thing he needs is Washington, D.C.”

“He has testified for 20 hours or something,” the president continued. “A massive amount of time. The Mueller report came out. That is the Bible. The Mueller report came out. They said he did nothing wrong.”

According to Trump, his son is under fire for meeting with Russians while doing “oppo research” against Hillary Clinton.
“My son is a good person,” Trump added. “My son testified for hours and hours. My son was totally exonerated by [special counsel Robert Mueller], who, frankly, does not like Donald Trump. Me, this Donald Trump.”

“And, frankly, for my son, after being exonerated, to now get a subpoena?” he said. “To go again and speak again after close to 20 hours of telling everybody that would listen about a nothing meeting? Yeah, I’m pretty surprised.””
