This is the moment where Sarah Sanders told the press she had “heard from countless members of the FBI” that Comey had lost the confidence of the rank and file of the FBI. The Mueller Report confirmed today that she lied and that “her comments were not founded on anything.” pic.twitter.com/bb8fyoONx6

That was Sanders in May of 2017 claiming that she personally knew of “countless” FBI agents who were glad that Comey had been fired.
But guess what? That was bullshit.
Courtesy of Mother Jones:
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders produced one sizable whopper in May 2017, in the aftermath of FBI Director James Comey’s firing, when she suggested that he was unpopular among the bureau’s rank and file.
After a reporter claimed that a “vast majority” of agents supported Comey, Sanders replied, “Look, we’ve heard from countless members of the FBI that say very different things.”
That response was “not founded on anything,” Mueller’s office concluded after interviewing Sanders, who told special counsel staffers she had made a “slip of the tongue.” The report also says she spoke to the president after that press conference and he told her she did a “good job and did not point out any inaccuracies in her comments.”
The lack of evidence for this sentiment didn’t stop Trump from latching on to it in an interview with Lester Holt of NBC News a day later. He said the FBI was in “virtual turmoil” under Comey.
I think most of us just take it for granted that when anybody in this White House speaks that it is likely a lie, but this is still an incredibly audacious lie to have told publicly.
Sanders and Trump were clearly counting on the fact that the FBI would keep their mouths closed, and not call them out on this.
And essentially that is what happened.
Update: Huckabee Sanders was called out on this false statement in an interview today. Get a load of this attempt at spin.
Pressed repeatedly on her comments on FBI agents, Sarah Sanders tells @GStephanopoulos, “It was the heat of the moment, meaning that it wasn’t a scripted talking point. I’m sorry that I wasn’t a robot like the Democratic Party” was about Mueller probe. https://t.co/mOQZNKl1wy pic.twitter.com/y3xcNwVYHg

She’s not a robot, like the Democrats? What?
