President Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani aggressively made the case on Thursday for the Trump campaign’s legal challenge of the 2020 election results, alleging in a fiery news conference that there was a “centralized” plan to carry out voter fraud around the country.

This is a different approach than the campaign has recently taken in court, where they have primarily focused on the validity of ballots and counts without asserting fraud. While Giuliani did not present any direct evidence of a massive fraud scheme, Giuliani asserted that this is the “logical conclusion” reached as a result of incidents he said took place in several states.

“What I’m describing to you is a massive fraud,” Giuliani said at the Capitol Hill news conference with other members of Trump’s legal team, who repeatedly lashed out at the news media and accused them of treating their efforts unfairly.

At one point, Giuliani repeatedly told one reporter: “You’re lying.”

His descriptions largely entailed recitations of allegations put forth in several lawsuits that the Trump campaign has filed. Former Vice President Joe Biden is the projected winner in the contest, but the Trump campaign is contesting those calls, raising concerns in several battleground states.

Essentially Giuliani is claiming that his client would have won the election if there had not been so many votes against him and that therefore those votes should be deemed invalid.

And that is of course crazy.

It probably did not help Giuliani’s credibility that he conducted his press conference with black goo running down his face.

I’m hoping that is just hair dye and that Giuliani’s blood has not been blackened through his association with Donald Trump.

This, of course, is not the only way that Trump is trying to subvert the will of the people, he is also using his office to pressure state officials to hand him victory.

President Trump has invited the leaders of Michigan’s Republican-controlled state legislature to meet him in Washington on Friday, according to a person familiar with those plans, as the president and his allies continue an extraordinary campaign to overturn the results of an election he lost.

Trump’s campaign has suffered defeats in courtrooms across the country in its efforts to allege irregularities with the ballot-counting process, and has failed to muster any evidence of the widespread fraud that the president continues to claim tainted the 2020 election.

Trump lost Michigan by a wide margin: At present, he trails President-Elect Joe Biden in the state by 157,000 votes. Earlier this week, the state’s Republican Senate majority leader said an effort to have legislators throw out election results was “not going to happen.”

But the president now appears to be using the full weight of his office to challenge the election results, as he and his allies reach out personally to state and local officials in an intensifying effort to halt the certification of the vote in key battleground states.

Trump’s panic has now reached a fever pitch, and it probably was not helped by the fact that he lost twice in Georgia.

Georgia has finished its statewide audit of the razor-thin presidential race, confirming that President-elect Joe Biden defeated President Donald Trump, according to a news release from the Secretary of State’s office.

Biden beat Trump by 12,284 votes, according to the final results from the audit. This is a slight drop for Biden compared to the pre-audit results.

Officials have said repeatedly that the audit confirmed there was no widespread fraud or irregularities in the election.

Georgia by law has to certify these results by today, so there is no time for Trump to launch yet another frivolous lawsuit.

The backdrop for all of this is the news that Joe Biden is now approaching 80 million votes.

Taken all together I think all of this makes an incredibly strong argument for doing away with the Electoral College and leaving these elections entirely up to the will of the people.
