NBC is now reporting that Rod Rosenstein was joking about wearing a wire to record Donald Trump.

That is essentially what I had already assumed.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was joking when he discussed wearing a wire to secretly record President Donald Trump and does not believe Trump should be removed from office through the use of procedures outlined in the Constitution’s 25th Amendment, according to Justice Department officials who requested anonymity to discuss the conversation.

The officials were responding to a New York Times report that Rosenstein, in the tumultuous spring of 2017, had discussed with other Justice and FBI officials the possibility of recruiting members of Trump’s Cabinet to declare him unfit for the job and that he offered to wear a recording device during conversations with the president.

In a May 16, 2017 meeting at a secure facility at the Justice Department — one week after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey — Rosenstein was arguing with Andrew McCabe, then the acting director of the FBI, about the president, according to a senior Justice Department official.

“Well, what do you want me to do, Andy, wear a wire?” Rosenstein asked at the meeting, which also included FBI lawyer Lisa Page and four career DOJ officials, according to the senior official. One of the career civil servants was Scott Schools, who would later go on to sign off on the firing of McCabe, the official said.

This official and a source who was in the room characterized Rosenstein’s remark as sarcastic.

Of course, he was just being sarcastic.

Everything we know about Rosenstein points to him being a by the book boy scout.

There is literally no way that he would go off script and suggest anything so radical and potentially illegal.

Of course, now that the seed has been planted there are already rumblings that Trump is in a rage and seriously contemplating firing Rosenstein.

Interestingly enough not all of the Trumpsters are on board with him doing that.

“I have a message for the president tonight,” Hannity said on Friday. “Under zero circumstances should the president fire anybody.”

The host said that he has “multiple sources” confirming that the president’s enemies are “hoping and praying” that Trump fires someone so they can turn it into a scandal. “The president needs to know it is all a setup,” Hannity said. “He needs to know that regardless of whether he steps in or not, and I would argue he should definitely not, the deep state tonight is crumbling from within at this very hour.”

I actually have serious doubts about Hannity’s “sources” and I have not heard of anybody on the Left hoping that Trump fires Rosenstein.

Having said that I hope that Trump once gain follows Hannity’s advice.

Because this time at least it is actually worth something.

“Well, what do you want me to do, Andy, wear a wire?” Rosenstein asked
Where does it STATE that he was going to wear a wire, don’t trump supporters know that the “?” at the end of a sentence is a question NOT a statement. I know it must be very difficult for them because their hero, little donnie, doesn’t speak or write in sentences !!!!

Has there ever been a presidency so dysfunctional? How long can this possibly go on? What disgusts me the most is how many people like Hannity and his ilk have eagerly jumped on the Trump bandwagon, and seem to believe whatever he says.

Nixon was before I was born, but I have read that Republicans largely followed him until the bitter end, when he became obvious he would be impeached. I wonder if this is true, and if it will happen to Trump as well. And just how long away is the bitter end for him?

I’ve lately been anxious about the midterms. What if the Dems don’t make significant gains? And worse, what if Trump gets re-elected? I wonder how long it will take to do critical damage and turn our country down a road we can’t get off.

It won’t help. Republicans and Trump in particular don’t have a sense of humor and don’t get sarcasm. Trump has been looking for an excuse to get rid of Rosensetin and this is it. His replacement will fire Mueller. All this despite his staff climbing over each other to try to stop Trump from slitting his own throat and the GOP with him. This will be his undoing. My only hope is that Pence will be taken out with him simultaneously an it moves slowly enough for the new Congress in January and the new Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to become President Pelosi. The only thing that would make me happier than that would be if she appointed Al Franken as her VP. That last would never happen but as long as I’m dreaming….
