It would be great if we could get this passed before February.

With America’s longest shutdown ending on Friday, lawmakers are turning their attention to another dramatic political objective: making sure such episodes can never take place again.

In a briefing with reporters and columnists on Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) became the highest official yet to formally embrace legislation that would effectively prevent the government from closing. And she hinted that she may even push a proposal in the near future.

“[Former Rep. Dale Kildee (D-MI)] had a bill that I’m hoping we might be able to put forward,” Pelosi explained. “And what that bill said is that if you do not, on any appropriations bill, I’m not talking about the omnibus or minibus”—aggregate spending bills— “any appropriations bill that does not get agreed upon within a timely fashion by the date, you automatically go into a CR” — a resolution to keep current spending levels going— “until you do.”

You know when I first reported on this bill it seemed like a longshot.

But now with Queen Nancy Poleesi, First of her name, breaker of presidents, and mother of House Democrats signing on I think there is a very good chance it will pass.

Mark Warner has a bill to put forward in the Senate too. Taking hundreds of thousands of American citizens hostage every time the Republicans get upset about something is reprehensible. It’s a kind of political tactic that proves that the GOP has no notion of how to lead the country or of how to make the lives of the American people better. It’s time to end the GOP ploy of political blackmail.

Yes. We need a bill that prevents shutdown. Then we need a requirement that people who run for president should have some qualifications under their belt. Experience in a public servant job, you know things like that. That theme, anyone can grow up to be president got taken to a new lowest level with donald trump. I mean at that rate even el chapo would qualify. So americans lets up the anty and make it a tad harder for just any crazy person to be elected because after donald set the bar so low anyone could walk in that door.
