Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) joined a group of nearly 1,000 Christians marching toward the White House on Sunday.

Asked why it was important for him to be out protesting, Romney told NBC News: “We need a voice against racism, we need many voices against racism and against brutality. And we need to stand up and say that black lives matter.”

Some people have been asking why the whitest man in America would participate in this march?

After all, he certainly does not need this photo-op to win election to the Senate in Utah.

I think the answer is fairly obvious.

I think Romney is preparing to run for president in 2024.

He will be 77 years old, but then so is Joe Biden this time around.

I think Romney is counting on Biden to screw up in some way which would create an opening for a more moderate, less divisive Republican to challenge his running mate in 2024.

However, we need to keep in mind that just because a Republican is not an orange-tinted lunatic madly tweeting at their enemies day and night, they are still a Republican.
