Melania Trump announced Monday she will oversee a renovation of the White House Rose Garden, overhauling the iconic greenspace adjacent to the Oval Office and West Wing.
Trump intends to restore the space to more resemble the original design and formation of the Rose Garden, established by President John F. Kennedy, and implemented in 1962 by horticulturist and philanthropist Rachel “Bunny” Mellon. The renovation, which will include excavation, could take several weeks, according to a source familiar with the timeline, and the Rose Garden will, during that time, be out of commission for use.
“The very act of planting a garden involves hard work and hope in the possibility of a bright future,” the first lady said in a statement. “Preserving the history and beauty of the White House and its grounds is a testament to our nation’s commitment to the care of this landscape and our dedication to American ideals, safeguarding them for our children and their children for generations to come.”
I think the last thing the Rose Garden needs is a makeover from the woman who thought this was Christmassy.

I know the actual building is protected from bastardization by a committee. If the Trumps wanted to do anything to the White House it would have to go through and be approved by a committee. The grounds, I’m not so sure about.
If she has to get approval from the committee to restore the rose garden then it’s either already approved, she doesn’t know she had to get approval and will be stopped, or they may see it takes so long to get approval it will be after the election and will be denied due to the lame duck status of her and Bunker Boy.
I’m not sure how they got that tennis pavilion approved but what is going on with that? I’ve seen no photos of construction under way or read anything about the status of that project.
There is a reason the original rose garden was modified for outdoor news conferences. In all likelihood whatever she does will be reversed to the way it was before she wasted taxpayer money on her vanity project.
What next? An outdoor swimming pool a lá Hearst Castle? You know, in keeping with the neoclassical style architecture.
There’s a photo of her in a hard hat looking at pavilion plans while construction goes on behind her dated MARCH 5, 2020. Yep. The pandemic is just starting and she’s out there having her vanity pavilion constructed. And now it’s the rose garden. Is she really that insulated that she doesn’t understand that people are DYING because her husband is an idiot but she wants to make the garden pretty? Less than 100 days before they will have official notice they’ll be moving out in January?
When there is a legitimate project most people will give a time line and projected costs.
The tennis project was last March, what did she say it would cost and how long would it take?
She also needs to do the math on her latest distraction.
It’s all very suspicious. Too many questions. No answers. She is terribly abusive towards the American taxpayers.
Won’t they make her more accountable? She is a Trump she may have to gold plate or solid gold everything for the family to feel comfortable and at home until they leave in January 2021.
If you do a building project where I live you have to go through boards and all kinds of hoops. It can take over a year until you actually start work.
Plus if a neighbor or anyone who lives in town has an issue, it can go on much longer. Everyone has to approve every little thing.
