Here we go.

I will add to this post as tweets and information becomes available.

Here is Christine Blasey Ford’s prepared opening statement:

I was an undergraduate at the University of North Carolina and earned my degree in Experimental Psychology in 1988. I received a Master’s degree in 1991 in Clinical Psychology from Pepperdine University. In 1996, I received a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Southern California. I earned a Master’s degree in Epidemiology from the Stanford University School of Medicine in 2009.

I have been married to Russell Ford since 2002 and we have two children.

I am here today not because I want to be. I am terrified. I am here because I believe it is my civic duty to tell you what happened to me while Brett Kavanaugh and I were in high school. I have described the events publicly before. I summarized them in my letter to Ranking Member Feinstein, and again in my letter to Chairman Grassley. I understand and appreciate the importance of your hearing from me directly about what happened to me and the impact it has had on my life and on my family.

The incident:

When I got to the small gathering, people were drinking beer in a small living room on the first floor of the house. I drank one beer that evening. Brett and Mark were visibly drunk. Early in the evening, I went up a narrow set of stairs leading from the living room to a second floor to use the bathroom. When I got to the top of the stairs, I was pushed from behind into a bedroom. I couldn’t see who pushed me. Brett and Mark came into the bedroom and locked the door behind them. There was music already playing in the bedroom. It was turned up louder by either Brett or Mark once we were in the room. I was pushed onto the bed and Brett got on top of me. He began running his hands over my body and grinding his hips into me. I yelled, hoping someone downstairs might hear me, and tried to get away from him, but his weight was heavy. Brett groped me and tried to take off my clothes. He had a hard time because he was so drunk, and because I was wearing a one-piece bathing suit under my clothes. I believed he was going to rape me. I tried to yell for help. When I did, Brett put his hand over my mouth to stop me from screaming. This was what terrified me the most, and has had the most lasting impact on my life. It was hard for me to breathe, and I thought that Brett was accidentally going to kill me. Both Brett and Mark were drunkenly laughing during the attack. They both seemed to be having a good time. Mark was urging Brett on, although at times he told Brett to stop. A couple of times I made eye contact with Mark and thought he might try to help me, but he did not.

During this assault, Mark came over and jumped on the bed twice while Brett was on top of me. The last time he did this, we toppled over and Brett was no longer on top of me. I was able to get up and run out of the room. Directly across from the bedroom was a small bathroom. I ran inside the bathroom and locked the door. I heard Brett and Mark leave the bedroom laughing and loudly walk down the narrow stairs, pin-balling off the walls on the way down. I waited and when I did not hear them come back up the stairs, I left the bathroom, ran down the stairs, through the living room, and left the house. I remember being on the street and feeling an enormous sense of relief that I had escaped from the house and that Brett and Mark were not coming after me.

The hearing has just started but already it has become contentious, and Senator Grassley is being very adversarial toward Dr. Ford.

Update: As this hearing starts, keep in mind that a fourth accusation was reported last night on NBC.

The only accuser present in today’s hearing is Christine Blasey Ford.

Update 2: The third accuser speaks.

Julie Swetnick is also not at this hearing.

Update 3: The new GOP tactic has been to find two men who claim that perhaps THEY were the ones who assaulted Dr. Ford.

Here is what Lindsay Graham said about them

You know every once in awhile Senator Graham seems fairly reasonable.

Update 4: Listen to this voice.

Does she sound like she is lying to you?

Update 5:

Update 6:

If I were Brett Kavanaugh I would call it a day and withdraw my name for nomination.

Update 7: Even Fox News cannot defend their side in this hearing.

Oh yeah, the Republicans are definitely in real trouble here.

Update 8: This also does not bode well for Kavanaugh.

Update 9: I am going to leave this thread open for Kavanaugh’s upcoming testimony in a few minutes.

So if you stay with me I will continue to expand on this post.

Update 10: Brett Kavanaugh’s opening statement. (You might want to turn down your speakers.)

Loud and bellicose. I’m guessing he was prepped by Trump.

Update 11: This, this is the guy who wants a seat on the Supreme Court.

Holy shit!

Update 12: Lindsey Graham showing Brett Kavanaugh the proper method for throwing a hissy fit.

Well, that was embarrassing to watch.

Dr. Ford is clearly not used to this kind of public speaking.

Her voice is already breaking up with emotion.

  4. Gryphen September 27, 2018 at 6:52 am

Seriously this testimony is killing me.

She is not only believable, but her obvious vulnerability makes me worry about what is to come next.

    • Anon September 27, 2018 at 7:22 am

Her lawyer is beside her and they requested breaks. I hope this is some support for her. Listening to her opening statement with empathy I started crying myself. I also have vivid recollections of my friend’s boyfriend taking me out to a club and away from my college group for my birthday. I can’t forget what it felt like to have a strong, fit guy six foot four pinning me down ignoring my No’s to penetrate me. My mind is looping around the terror of being pinned like a bug futilely struggling.
I was ignorant not knowing of date or party rapes or rapes by people you and your friends socialize with. The guy acted as if nothing happened when friends saw him on campus. He even asked why his girlfriend and our friends no longer spoke to him and exited when he showed up. That was worse. The fear of pregnancy, my mother’s wrath if she knew and the shame that I would be blamed was an enormous burden. The culture then was the female asked for it.

It may take being physically assaulted by someone crushed beneath their weight to grasp how impossible to escape. Too many people maintain it is all the females fault giving males a pass that they “can’t control” their sexual urges so the female victim is slutty or object for pleasure without rights.

    • Anonymous September 27, 2018 at 10:47 am

She may seem vulnerable, however remember this is the type of women Brett preyed. I believe it was the girlfriend of Mark Judge or someone else that mentioned they use to pick out the shy, timid girls to prey on.

      • Anonymous September 27, 2018 at 11:32 am

Yes, I also heard that recently.

  5. anon September 27, 2018 at 7:06 am

Many of the senators have demonstrated a disinterest in uncovering the truth.

What is unfolding now in your committee is a second assault on our nation’s survivors ― an assault by public officials as they raise doubt, attempt to shame the brave women who share their suffering, and work to minimize the survivors’ stories.

It felt like “we were only here by the graces of men,” said Luckow, who now teaches film at the university. “There was this sense that we were responsible for what men did to us.”

  6. Gryphen September 27, 2018 at 7:12 am

This questioning by the sexual assault investigator is weird and does not seem pertinent to the proceedings.

If the Republicans thought this would protect them from criticism I think they are seriously mistaken.

Just as I thought this sex crimes prosecutor is clearly there to pick Dr. Ford’s story apart and prove her untrustworthy.

So far it is not working.

  9. anon September 27, 2018 at 7:26 am

“While Swetnick does not say specifically that Judge and Kavanaugh raped her, only that they were “present,” her declaration severely contradicts Kavanaugh’s claim, made in a Monday Fox News interview, that he had never “saw or heard of” any incident in which multiple male students took advantage of a female student sexually when he was in high school. Judge, who has said that he has “no recollection” of the incident that Christine Blasey Ford alleges took place, published a book in 1997 called Wasted: Tales of a Gen X Drunk that includes a character named “Bart O’Kavanaugh”

  10. Anon September 27, 2018 at 7:37 am

“Swetnick’s allegations require a thorough investigation on the part of Maryland authorities. She is alleging nothing less than a conspiracy of sex abuse involving multiple rapists, none of whom, apparently, have faced any punishment for their reported crimes.” also witnessed efforts by Mark Judge, Brett Kavanaugh and others to cause girls to become inebriated and disoriented so they could then be “gang raped” in a side room or bedroom by a “train” of numerous boys. I have a firm recollection of seeing boys lined up outside rooms at many of these parties waiting for their “turn” with a girl inside the room. These boys included Mark Judge and Brett Kavanaugh.

Swetnick reports becoming “the victim of one of these ‘gang’ or ‘train’ rapes” where Judge and Kavanaugh “were present.” Her declaration does not clarify whether they participated in the alleged rape. She alleges she was drugged with Quaaludes “or something similar,”

“he pegged himself as a heavy drinker and someone who jokes about sharing a woman sexually among friends.”
“She told the friend what happened on their drive home.
“I told her that he raped me, and she kept telling me that I was lucky, because he was so cute. … Why would I tell anyone after that reaction? What was anyone going to do?”
” The “lineups” that Lescaze and Swetnick have described are not gruesome aberrations specific to the tony suburbs of D.C. in the ’80s; they’re the predictable end product of a stew of entitlement, misogyny, one-upmanship masculinity, glamorized alcoholism, and a fetishization of virginity that shames women for having sex, thus discouraging them from identifying and reporting sexual assault. These sorts of assaults are at the far end of a continuum with the other abuses mentioned in Lescaze’s article and Swetnick’s affidavit—unwanted kisses, groping, trying to get girls drunker than they intended—and the sort of “Renate Alumni” boasting Kavanaugh and his friends encoded in their yearbook.”

Sarah Palin on Herman Cain: “Boys Will Be Boys”

“On December 1st on Fox News’ Hannity, Sean Hannity and Palin yukked it up a beat or two before diving right in to the Herman Cain fiasco, with Hannity taking the opportunity to charge the media with non-coverage of what he considered important issues during the 2008 campaign (like, you know, how long the President had been a terrorist-loving devil-worshipper and if he ever went back to visit his home in Kenya) and Palin leaping on the media-as-crucifier-of-conservatives bandwagon.

Hannity: ”I hope you were just listening to Herman Cain. There’s a bigger issue in play here but it was long before the issue of sexual harassment and this most recent charge came up, he was being called all sorts of names and the media seems to just be willing to do this and go along with this. You have experienced this as a conservative woman. Why do we live now at a time of political correctness that if you’re conservative, you’re a woman or an African-American conservative you can say anything you want, nobody seems to care.”

Palin: ”Yeah, isn’t that something, well, we need to not be afraid of being accused of being racist just because we call out, for instance, Obama and his socialist policies and his associations and his past record that prove that he would seek to fundamentally transform America. We cannot be afraid of what the name-calling will do to us but yeah, you’re spot on when you talk about the hypocrisy and the double standards in the media. You know, in regards to Herman Cain and what he’s going through, I’ll tell ya, Sean, in many voters’ book, including mine, character counts. And if Herman Cain did not engage in this recent 13-year affair, screwing around on his wife and giving money tosome broad on the side unbeknownst to his wife, well, then, if he did not do this then the false accuser is really despicable and he should not have to put up with that kind of false accusation that results in somebody’s character being so besmirched and really ruined, if he did do it, though, Sean, if he did it, if he engaged in this recent affair and is misleading the public then, you know, like they say, boys will be boys but they shouldn’t run the country . . . .”

When asked if he’s learned anything new, Hatch said, “no I haven’t. at least I can’t think of anything.” He says he doesn’t have a strong impression so far.

“’l’ll say this, she’s attractive and she’s a nice person,” he said as he headed to the elevator bank.”

    • anonymous September 27, 2018 at 9:51 am

Orrin Hatch used to keep sweet with the child raping FLDS!

Blind Eye to Culture of Abuse

The head of Utah’s Division of Child and Family Services, Richard Anderson, said the best bet for an abused girl in the community was “to find someone she can trust.”

That’s tough in a tightly run theocracy where girls are taught to obey males and interaction with the outside world is largely forbidden.

Some view the FLDS, with its penchant for old-fashioned dress, hats, bonnets and braided hair, as merely a collection of eccentrics living a simple, alternative lifestyle.

Sen. Orrin G. Hatch (R-Utah) once visited the FLDS church in Hildale and played the organ. He later defended the group when asked about its alleged abuses.

“All I can say is I know people in Hildale who are polygamists who are very fine people. You come and show me the evidence of children being abused there, and I’ll get involved,” he told local reporters. “Bring the evidence to me.”

Through a spokesman, Hatch declined to be interviewed for this story. Staff aide Peter Carr said allegations of FLDS abuse were “a matter for local and federal prosecutors.”

In his successful 1991 bid for Arizona governor, Fife Symington wrote an open letter to the residents of Colorado City concerning their “family-oriented lifestyles,” vowing never to do anything to “upset or question” their religion.

“Our policy was one of noninterference,” he said recently. “The advice I got when running was this was an issue I wanted to stay away from.”

I wonder what Blasey Ford will think when she hears what Hatch said about her…

    • Anonymous September 27, 2018 at 10:45 am

She came across as TOTALLY CREDIBLE.

He on the other hand is watching with “his team” and being coach for the upcoming session. No wonder she wanted him to testify first.

Hope the Democrats use their time to ask questions about his drinking, instead of making statements.

Someone should ask Hatch, if she was ugly would she be lying?

      • Anonymous September 28, 2018 at 2:38 am

I was wrong, He couldn’t be bothered to watch her testimony.

    • Beaglemom September 27, 2018 at 12:31 pm

Orrin Hatch grows more despicable by the second. Can’t he describe a woman, any woman, without relying on her appearance? What if the female witness were very ordinary looking or even homely? Would that make her less credible? We women don’t want to have people like Hatch pat us on our heads and say that we are, not acceptable as equal human beings, but “attractive.”

So apparently this prosecutor believes that finding out who paid for her polygraph test is the key to destroying Dr. Ford’s credibility.

    • Anonymous September 27, 2018 at 11:31 am

Agree with you Gryphen…that really struck me as being a very obvious attack on Dr. Ford. During the various “financial” questions asked by the prosecutor, I’m glad the male attorney spoke up and said that he and the other attorney were representing Dr. Ford pro bono. (Earlier in the testimony one of Dr. Ford’s attorneys said it was customary for an attorney to pay the fee for the polygraph.)

Dr. Ford also mentioned that a couple of Go Fund Me accounts had been established on her behalf, but admitted that she didn’t even know how to access the money. IMO Dr. Ford made it clear that she has received advice from friends on how to contact legislators and newspapers, input regarding choosing an attorney, pro bono attorney help and help with security for her family; however, speaking out was entirely her idea, she was ultimately outed by reporters and that forced her to go public.

  28. the second coming is a metaphor for the individuals transformation of sight September 27, 2018 at 10:44 am

It would take a bloodied Jesus Christ dragging a cross on the floor of the Capitol to get the serious attention of the GOP. Anything short of that will not circumvent the error that has been hard-wired into their tribal nervous system as a result of reading Christianity as literal. That is the ignorant root here.

    • Beaglemom September 28, 2018 at 3:24 am

I don’t think that the 21st century GOP would even notice Christ if he were to drag “a cross on the floor of the Capitol” in part because the wild evangelicals wouldn’t notice and in part because all they want is to foist their agenda on the nation and the world. I read yesterday that Kavanaugh has said that the Brown v. Board of Education was “wrong” so he’d be completely okay with junking civil rights along with voting rights and every other kind of rights for anyone other than white males. One of the big movements of the moment is to erase any discussion of the struggle for minority rights (abolition of slavery, workers’ rights especially with regard to representation, wages and safety, women’s rights to vote or to receive equal treatment, civil rights movement for minorities, and recently gained LGBT rights, for example) in this country from the social studies curricula in our public schools (about to happen in Michigan). And I think that Kavanaugh would be a poster child for that extreme position. Republicans think that “progress” on any level is wrong. So the appearance of Christ among them would be meaningless.

Dude is shouting so hard there is spittle on the corners of his mouth.

I’m listening (loud and clear) to Kavanaugh while typing this comment on my old computer, two rooms away from the TV. YIKES! I hope he’s hoarse tomorrow!

Also, he immediately made himself and his family out to be the victims! Where have we heard that line before…yup, from the orange pumpkin head.

A woman stood strong and relived horrific events in front of America.

Brett Kavanaugh is crying because he has been accused.

This “due process” and “corroboration” arguments are such bs. If he really wanted due process and was open to corroboration, the accusers’s chief witness—Mark Judge—would be testifying.

Wow. My concern with him was always that he was more political operative who happened to be a lawyer. That opening statement confirmed that.

      NOW ar·gu·MEN·ta·tive & blaming Mark Judge…

That is Kavanaugh’s defense in a nutshell.

  42. Anonymous September 27, 2018 at 11:54 am

He is now making statements that women witnesses say that he is so wonderful, they can’t be questioned to the veracity of their statements.

He might have written the statement himself, but he has been coached.

He also mentioned women he knew in college that say he is wonderful, this should open the door to introduce the claims about the drinking etc of other accusers including statements from men.

  43. Gryphen September 27, 2018 at 11:54 am

    Keep this in mind:

Later in his opening remarks, Kavanaugh claimed that Christine Blasey Ford’s friend, Leland Keyser, “refuted” her account of the party she was assaulted at by Brett Kavanaugh. In fact, Keyser has only said that she does not recall the event but believes Ford’s allegation.

    • Gryphen September 27, 2018 at 11:55 am

In other words, he is lying.

He is also lying about the drinking age which was 21 when he turned 18.

      Just thought you should know.

      • FACT September 27, 2018 at 12:08 pm

A later edit of the term included a threesome.

There is a game called “beer pong — triangle rules,” but Kavanaugh compared it to “quarters” not beer pong.”

Asked by either Senator Whitehouse or Senator Coons: What is the meaning of:

Question: Devil’s Triangle? Kavanaugh’s claimed it was a drinking game. REAL ANSWER: It is a threesome – 2 men and 1 woman (Brett & Mark Judge, maybe?).
Question: Boofing? Kavanaugh claimed it meant farting. REAL ANSWER: taking drugs or alcohol up the ass to get high quickly.
I think both terms were written on Brett Kavanaugh’s infamous 1982 calendar.

‘The president was noticeably silent on Twitter throughout the daylong hearing, during which both Blasey and Kavanaugh offered tearful testimony. Immediately after the hearing ended, Trump called Kavanaugh’s testimony “powerful, honest and riveting,” while calling Blasey’s accusations part of a political tactic by Democrats.

He echoed Republicans like Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who during the hearing went on a tangent about Blasey’s allegations being a “sham” leveled by Democrats on the committee.

“I would never do to them what you’ve done to this guy,” Graham yelled. “This is the most unethical sham since I’ve been in politics. And if you really wanted to know the truth, you sure as hell wouldn’t have done what you’ve done to this guy.”’

@ Beaglemom in this one, Sarah would be forced to condemn Kavanaugh, if she had the moral fiber to be consistent and not a hypocrite. So, yeah, some guys do NOT know the boundaries in high school. But to lie about it later means they DO NOT DESERVE TO RUN THE COUNTRY or sit on the Supreme Court. We can certainly question whether he should be allowed to sit on any court as a judge. So yeah, she would actually be against Kavanaugh’s nomination in this, if we took the statement to apply to him.

  86. Anon September 27, 2018 at 3:06 pm

  87. anon September 27, 2018 at 3:13 pm

“The judge’s rant was a frightening moment for anyone who cares about a fair and impartial judiciary. If confirmed, Kavanaugh will sit on highly political cases. He may even be called upon to decide the outcome of an election. He will do the former even if he is not confirmed and remains a lower court judge.

Yet it was also an important and revealing moment, where one of the nation’s most prominent judges took off his mask.
the man who appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday was not the measured, carefully spoken judge that Kavanaugh presents himself as most of the time. Instead, he depicted himself as the partisan operative who once served as a top aide to Independent Counsel Ken Starr.

And, in that sense, it was a bit refreshing. Kavanaugh was always going to be a partisan judge, but now he’ll have a tough time pretending that he’s anything else.”

He didn’t tell the truth, he was evasive, didn’t answer the questions but rambled his memorized, coached statements and his opening statement said it all: it is a conspiracy by the clintons and the democrats to get him.

I thought Senator Harris was great when she asked him : how come Gorsech went through the same process, by the same committee an no allegations of sexual abuse came out about him? He couldn’t answer.

Brett Naughty based his defense on that letter. And if the phoenix prosecutor is a specialist on sex assault? Then what does she say about kavenaughty behavior? The party is not over…democrats are not done.
Hope Mueller is ready to take drumpf down now.

You forgot how Grassley felt it necessary to INTERRUPT every single woman when it was their turn to speak. Old misogynistic asshole had to put them in their place and remind them that old white men are still in charge. Reflects perfectly the elitist bullshit instilled at Georgetown PERP and Yale, where there were still marble urinals on the women’s bathrooms. There are several editorials out describing the sexist culture at both schools at the time.

If Kavanaughty believes he isn’t guilty of sexual assault then he has no idea what sexual assault is. Which considering his past rulings is probably accurate.

He should be voted down and put in a loony bin just for his statement about the vast liberal conspiracy against him and the revenge of the Clintons. Obviously he is paranoid 🙂 and is imaging there are liberals out there to get him.

I also question the death threats against him, he only came up with that AFTER she claimed death threats. Wouldn’t be surprised if his frat brothers have been busy.

He is afraid of another FBI investigation, if he were innocent he could have answered I passed 6 FBI investigations, so bring it on. Instead he never answered the question.

Dr. Ford is probable the one and only person that has actually answered all the questions put to her.

Even Cory Booker could not get him to answer whether he thinks Dr. Ford is part of this liberal conspiracy. He gave the same memorized answer, my family wishes he no ill.
