Smart move.

In a virtual fundraiser with donors Friday night, former Vice President Joe Biden said that he has formally alerted Sen. Bernie Sanders that he will move forward with a vice presidential vetting process even though neither has become the Democratic nominee.

He also disclosed to donors participating in the billed “fireside chat” that he has had casual conversations with emerging leaders in the Democratic Party about possibly serving in his administration if he’s elected President of the United States.

Biden, who leads Sanders in the delegate count by 313, according to NBC News’ tally, said that he wanted to personally alert Sanders that he will announce his vetting committee in mid-April as it appears that his pathway to clinching the nomination is more likely than that of the Vermont senator’s.

“I don’t want him to think I’m being presumptuous, but you have to start now deciding on who you’re going to have background checks done on as potential vice presidential candidates and it takes time,” he said.

In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel last week, Biden said he felt “almost guilty” talking about the process of choosing his vice president — who he has pledged would be a woman — even though he has not been chosen as the Democratic nominee.

I think that the fact Biden feels “almost guilty” is indicative of his resepct for the process, but let’s face it we are sailing into uncharted waters here.

We need to move forward with his whole process and this would be a reasonable next step.

I kind of worry that Sanders might try to steal Biden’s thunder by naming his own Female VP before Joe gets his ducks in a row, but then I wonder who would still be willing to sign on.

I think that Kamala Harris, Elizabeth Warren, and Stacey Abrams will only want to associate themselves with the winning ticket and that ain’t Bernie Sanders.

Sanders might snag Tulsi Gabbard, but that would just sink him right away.

I also want to address a recent comment about the election probably not taking place in November.

As I have already posted last month (Link) Trump and the Republicans cannot postpone this election without the Democrats agreeing and there is no way that the Dems are going to allow Trump to stay in office one more day than necessary.

So no, the election will not be postponed.

Whether or not we will be able to move to mail in ballots before November is another discussion altogether.
