How does he say that with a straight face?

In the White House coronavirus task force’s first press conference in two months on Friday, Vice President Mike Pence stuck to happy talk and falsely claimed that the United States had “flattened the curve” as new cases rise.
Pence, who once said the US’s coronavirus outbreak would be “behind us” by Memorial Day, described the nation’s testing and prevention efforts as “a national accomplishment” and expressed optimism while acknowledging a “precipitous” increase in cases in the South.
Less than 24 hours before Pence’s appearance on Friday, the US reported more than 39,000 new COVID-19 cases, a record single-day increase.
Pence attributed the rise in reported cases to increased testing. “We want the American people to understand that it’s almost inarguable that more testing is generating more cases,” Pence said.
Pence claimed that the US had flattened the curve, though new daily cases have increased in recent weeks.
By the way not only do most medical experts disagree that increased testing is behind the spike in new cases, but many of the other members of the task force on that stage with Pence have disagreed with that assertion.
And in no way have we flattened any curve.
It seems that Mike Pence was sent out there by Trump to lie his ass off about the pandemic, even though the American people have access to the facts through just about every media outlet that is not Fox News.
And most of them have reached the obvious conclusions, that this administration is not keeping us safe.

Spiking cases of COVID-19 have shifted sentiments around the pandemic in recent weeks, with the nation growing more concerned about becoming infected, generally more reticent to engage in normal activities than just two weeks ago, and believing that the country reopened up too fast, according to a new ABC News/Ipsos poll released Friday.
More than three in four Americans (76%) are concerned about contracting the coronavirus, levels of concern not seen in a month. The latest poll, conducted by Ipsos in partnership with ABC News using Ipsos’ Knowledge Panel, shows an uptick in unease from just two weeks ago when concern stood at 69% in a poll released on June 12.
Fewer than one in four Americans say they are not worried about becoming infected.
With the outbreak not fading away, it appears the country is backsliding.
In fact, it could be argued that Trump and Pence are facilitating the spread of the virus.

A journalist who covered US President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma, has tested positive for COVID-19 nearly a week later.
Paul Monies, a reporter with the nonprofit news outlet Oklahoma Watch, revealed on Friday that he tested positive despite not yet showing any symptoms. He took the test as a precaution after attending the rally.
Two Trump campaign staffers who were at the event have also tested positive, joining a half-dozen others on the advance team for the rally who contracted the virus before the event — including two members of the Secret Service.
I am not sure what Trump hoped to accomplish with that dog and pony show yesterday, but if it was to put people’s minds at ease I would suggest that he failed miserably.
