Facebook permanently bans Alex Jones, and others who trade in hate speech.

Gee, it’s about time.

Courtesy of Boing Boing:

Facebook says it has banned accounts for Infowars, Alex Jones, Milo Yiannopoulos, Laura Loomer, Louis Farrakhan, and others from both Facebook and Instagram, citing its “dangerous individuals and organizations” policy.

Facebook says it didn’t just ban these accounts.

Facebook promises to remove, for instance, Alex Jones and Infowars content posted by any other accounts, too.

If you post Infowars or Alex Jones content too many times, you will be banned.

Facebook could sure use some good PR, and this smells like a very thirsty attempt to be seen Doing Something Right For A Change.

But this is long overdue on Facebook’s part, and a move that will likely have negative financial consequences for those banned.

The question to ask is how vigilant will Facebook be in keeping this content off of their site, and will they effectively block attempts by new media outlets to publish similar material?

This could literally be a fulltime job for a whole team of Facebook employees whose sole responsibility is to protect their clients from being exposed to right-wing fabrications and shit posts from trolls.

Late or not, I still applaud the effort.

    Facebook should ban Facebook.

tinydjt tweet>When will the Radical Left Wing Media apologize to me for knowingly getting the Russia Collusion Delusion story so wrong? The real story is about to happen! Why is @nytimes, @washingtonpost, @CNN, @MSNBC allowed to be on Twitter & Facebook. Much of what they do is FAKE NEWS!
    4:34 AM – May 4, 2019

“Trump wants some of the most prominent free press outlets banned from Twitter and Facebook, but pro-Trump propagandists, conspiracy theorists, and hate speech peddlers should have an amplified platform. ” “The media is supposed to push his propaganda, brainwash the citizens, and glorify him.

Trump wants the United States to become North Korea. The free press is democracy’s weapon against Trump”

The notion that Trump was cleared of “collusion” which ISN’T a crime that exists in the criminal code is a falsehood that has been pushed by Trump’s attorney general, the president and his defenders. Donald Trump is losing. His hate speech spewing supporters are being banned, and the institutions that safeguard freedoms are prevailing over this president.”

See how Kim Il Sung created a North Korean dictatorship that has lasted for three generations.

    dotard dRUMPf the 1st!

The president said it was “so great to watch” a video from Alex Jones’ conspiracy-mongering website Infowars.

Trump began the spree at 9 a.m. when he shared a video from far-right conspiracy-monger Alex Jones’ Infowars website, which itself has been banned or suspended from several social media platforms.

Trump also shared Saturday a tweet from his son, Eric Trump, promoting the Trump National Golf Club Philadelphia and another post with a video captioned:
“The ‘elite’ proclaim America must submit to Islam or else!!!”

The purposeful & calculated silencing of conservatives by @facebook & the rest of the Big Tech monopoly men should terrify everyone.

It appears they’re taking their censorship campaign to the next level.

Ask yourself, how long before they come to purge you? We must fight back.
    7:46 AM – May 3, 2019

The president on Friday claimed he was “continuing to monitor” what he described as “the censorship of AMERICAN CITIZENS on social media platforms.”

You’re killing alot of things. Namely democracy!

Larry Kudlow Lies On TV About Jay Powell Contemplating A Rate Cut

    This is just lazy, Larry.

So, Larry Kudlow just went on live air and told Fox Business this:

“With these low inflation numbers, I think the Fed is actually looking at rate cuts.”
Considering Jay Powell spoke less than 24 hours ago, and said nothing even close to this, that looks very much like a lie.

We understand that Larry’s job right now is to be a fluffer for the stock market so that the president can maintain a mood, and that Kuddles has been brushing up against the edges of truth for months, but this is just lazy. Kuddles is a sublime practitioner of bullshit, and a master of making nonsense seem borderline logical when speaking into a TV camera. It’s embarrassing to see Larry reduced to a dumb and obvious lie. We expect this from Mnuchin or Wilbur, but Larry can do better. If he can’t, then maybe it’s time to send him home to where he belongs: a prime table at Lutece in 1997. Either that or put Kuddles on The Fed alongside Jim Cramer, because some love affairs should never die.<dealbreaker

Annnnd Trump has tweeted out in support of those banned. What a shitshow.

Read up about what Alex Jones And has followers have done to Sandy Hook parents who’ve lost their children. It’s absolutley nauseating.

Facebook has banned several high-profile accounts it says engage in “violence and hate.” The move also follows several recent acts of violence livestreamed on the company’s site. Facebook employs thousands of people known as moderators, who are on the frontlines of a battle to stop extremist material online. But as The Verge editor Casey Newton tells Hari Sreenivasan, their jobs come at a cost.

I think that the time has come for us to shift our perspective on what these platforms are and on the value of the work that these folks are doing. Because again, if you take content moderation off of any social network, whether it’s Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Reddit those places quickly become totally unusable. They’re overrun by trolls. You and I would never want to spend any time there. And so because of the work that these folks are doing and because of the really disturbing stuff that they are subjected to and work through they may create a safer world for the rest of us.

tinydjt tweet>How can it be possible that James Woods (and many others), a strong but responsible Conservative Voice, is banned from Twitter? Social Media & Fake News Media, together with their partner, the Democrat Party, have no idea the problems they are causing for themselves. VERY UNFAIR!

I’ll believe they’re serious when Twitter closes Trump’s account.

Better be Instagram too since Facebook also owns that.

Twitter should follow this same policy.

Neither are government entities and can make and enforce any rules they want for private businesses, regardless of the First Amendment.
