It should be noted that Trump had no official events scheduled for today.

President Donald Trump made a brief, unannounced visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial on the National Mall in recognition of the holiday honoring the civil rights icon.
Trump laid a wreath Monday morning at the foot of the memorial alongside Vice President Mike Pence before quickly returning to his motorcade.
“It’s a great day. A beautiful day. Thank you for being here. Appreciate it,” Trump told reporters as he stood before the large statue of King.
The President’s visit to the memorial site — which is overseen by the National Park Service — came on the 31st day of the government shutdown, which has left the National Park Service unfunded.
I imagine if you had been there you would have heard Trump muttering “Well that should keep them from calling me a racist for one more day.”
Except no it will not.
Running up and tossing a wreath at a memorial and having a staffer send out a tweet is not the same as taking the time to honor a man who sacrificed his very life so that others can live in dignity and equality in this country.
It also does nothing to erase the fact that his VP actually had the temerity to compare his boss to MLK just yesterday.

Yeah, he is going to need at least a dozen more wreaths.
Here let our last great President show you how this is done.
Yeah, like that.
