Donald Trump grants Bill Barr sweeping authority to declassify information to assist his attempts to smear Russia investigators.

President Donald Trump ordered Thursday that Attorney General William Barr be given authority to declassify information as part of his investigation into inflammatory claims that U.S. intelligence agencies “spied” on the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election.

“President Donald J. Trump directed the intelligence community to quickly and fully cooperate with the Attorney General’s investigation into surveillance activities during the 2016 Presidential election,” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement. “Today’s action will help ensure that all Americans learn the truth about the events that occurred, and the actions that were taken, during the last Presidential election.”

Sanders noted that Trump had also granted “full and complete authority” to Barr to declassify any information necessary related to his investigation.

The move comes about a month after Barr appeared before the Senate Appropriations Committee and testified that he believed “spying did occur” on Trump’s campaign during the 2016 race, though he claimed he was “not suggesting it wasn’t predicated,” or properly authorized.

Barr’s use of the term “spying” ― which isn’t typically used to describe court-authorized law enforcement monitoring ― boosted Republican claims that the FBI improperly surveilled the Trump campaign for political reasons.

There is actually nothing wrong with Trump declassifying information to assist an investigation, presidents do it all of the time, but this is clearly an attempt to allow Barr to publicize some of the information he uncovers to feed Trump’s rabid right-wing base as he clumsily attempts to make a case that damages the integrity of the Russia interference investigation and those who were present at its inception.

Just think of this as Benghazi 2.0 with even less credible information with which to work.

Also keep in mind that the people Barr will be “investigating” are the same people that Trump accused of treason just the other day.

The news of this has already upset some of our national security experts.

And yesterday Trump expanded his conspiracy theory to include the UK, Australia, and Ukraine.

So is Barr investigating them as well?

Any document can be twisted to mean something else than what was originally intended by extracting a word or a sentence here and there and not providing context. We don’t have to look further than Barr’s “resume” of the Mueller Report to know that any document can be reworked to say the exact opposite of the original version.

After Barr works his magic on the FISA warrant and orher related documents, the Justice Department will be ready to indict all the persons on Trump’s list of “traitors “.

Over a century and counting. Russia. USA. UK. the list goes on and on. Trump just brought it to light. Sunshine is the best disinfectant. Now who said that.

“Barr recently named Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham (best known for investigating the FBI’s corrupt relationship with Boston mobster James “Whitey” Bulger) to head up an inquiry into the “origins” of the Russia investigation. Unnamed government officials have attempted to minimize the significance of the inquiry by stating to the press that it does not currently entail the use of grand jury subpoenas, but that of course could change at any time—indeed, Senator Lindsey Graham is publicly demanding as much.

Barr, meanwhile, has become remarkably open about his intent to follow the president’s lead by making the investigators the focus of as much opprobrium as possible.”

“The move effectively secures Barr at the head of an investigation into what Trump and his allies have said was an illegal — and even treasonous — investigation into the president and his campaign by partisans within the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Justice Department, and the Intelligence Community.

It also raises the specter of investigations driven by politics rather than the law. Barr has repeatedly used the office of attorney general to give the president political cover: he notably misrepresented the findings of the Mueller report to further the president’s false claim that the report exonerated him. Trump surrogate Corey Lewandowski on Thursday previewed a new angle of attack the administration is apparently pursuing. He claimed without evidence that former Vice President Joe Biden — a leading Democratic contender to challenge Trump in 2020 — is behind what he said was an illegal investigation into the president. Lewandowski went on to name a laundry list of former Obama administration officials he said are likely to stand trial, several of whom have served under both Democratic and Republican presidents.

    “And we can’t wait,”

The report explicitly says the president is not cleared of allegations of obstruction of justice, and the special counsel’s office left it up to Congress to pursue the charges further. More recently, Barr said, again without evidence, that the Obama administration “spied” on the Trump campaign — a remarkable comment coming from a sitting attorney general.

Trump has repeatedly claimed, without evidence, that former President Barack Obama “tapped” his Trump Tower campaign headquarters in 2016.”
“With Barr as the sole head of an investigation with sweeping powers of discovery and disclosure, the back-and-forth over 2016 is still unfolding — and now puts the president’s closest allies in a unique position to target Democratic candidates hoping to challenge Trump in 2020.”

““When Mueller does testify, he can expect far more questions than we could list here,” Litt and Wittes concluded. “But it is vital for the public’s understanding, and in order to preserve the security of U.S. elections in the future, that it hear from Mueller on these and other matters. Congress has an important fact-finding role to play, and special counsel Mueller has an important part to play in assisting the legislature, consistent with the rules governing prosecutors and investigations of this scope and significance.””

The first sentence says it all, “Today, at the request and recommendation of the Attorney General…”. Barr is making a power grab and is planning on doing Trump’s political bidding. If you give one person all that power, how is anyone going to successfully argue that what Barr says is untrue? Barr lied under oath to Congress, He misrepresented the Mueller findings before the redacted report was released to the public. Trump has already dismantled the FBI’s leadership since he took office.

This sounds more like a dictatorship in the making. Whatever propaganda Trump wants, it looks like Barr is his man. Barr (and Trump) now hold the keys to the Justice Department, the FBI & CIA intelligence. I hope all of these agencies look at this move by Barr & Trump, as a foreign invasion or hacking of their intelligence files. Because the next time Trump talks with Putin or MBS, how much intelligence information will be given to Russia or Saudi Arabia, via Barr’s “investigation”?

This is dangerous to all of us.
