Donald Trump finally admits that Jamal Khashoggi is likely dead, while conservatives start whisper campaign to attack his character.

By the way “waiting for some investigations” is code for “waiting for the Saudis to get their alibis in order.”

Courtesy of HuffPo:

Trump acknowledged for the first time that Khashoggi had likely been killed.

“It certainly looks that way to me. It’s very sad,” Trump told reporters before boarding Air Force One on a political trip.

He was headed to yet another Hiler rally by the way.

At this point, Trump really has no choice but to admit that Khashoggi is dead, after all there are tapes.

Courtesy of NYT:

Saudi agents were waiting when Jamal Khashoggi walked into their country’s consulate in Istanbul two weeks ago. Mr. Khashoggi was dead within minutes, beheaded, dismembered, his fingers severed, and within two hours the killers were gone, according to details from audio recordings described by a senior Turkish official on Wednesday.

The government of Turkey let out these and other leaks about the recordings on Wednesday, as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Ankara, in an escalation of pressure on both Saudi Arabia and the United States for answers about Mr. Khashoggi, a prominent Saudi dissident journalist who lived in Virginia and wrote for The Washington Post.

The new leaks, which were also splashed in lurid detail across a pro-government newspaper, came a day after Mr. Pompeo and the Trump administration had appeared to accept at face value the promises of the Saudi rulers to conduct their own investigation into Mr. Khashoggi’s disappearance — regardless of Turkish assertions that senior figures in the royal court had ordered his killing.

It appears that the Saudis may have identified a scapegoat for the murder.

Also courtesy of NYT:

The rulers of Saudi Arabia are considering blaming a top intelligence official close to Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, three people with knowledge of the Saudi plans said Thursday.

The plan to assign blame to Maj. Gen. Ahmed al-Assiri, a high-ranking adviser to the crown prince, would be an extraordinary recognition of the magnitude of international backlash to hit the kingdom since the disappearance of Mr. Khashoggi, a prominent Saudi dissident. A resident of Virginia and contributor to The Washington Post, Mr. Khashoggi was last seen entering the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2.

Blaming General Assiri could also provide a plausible explanation for the apparent killing and help deflect blame from the crown prince, who American intelligence agencies are increasingly convinced was behind Mr. Khashoggi’s disappearance.

Well, isn’t that convenient?

In this same article it is reported that Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner is encouraging Trump to wait this thing out until it blows over:

Jared Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law and Middle East adviser, has been urging the president to stand by the prince, according to a person close to the White House and a former official with knowledge of the discussions.

Mr. Kushner has argued that the crown prince can survive the outrage just as he has weathered past criticism.

But don’t think that is all the Trump side is doing, they are also attempting to smear Khashoggi’s reputation.

Courtesy of WaPo:

Hard-line Republicans and conservative commentators are mounting a whispering campaign against Jamal Khashoggi that is designed to protect President Trump from criticism of his handling of the dissident journalist’s alleged murder by operatives of Saudi Arabia — and support Trump’s continued aversion to a forceful response to the oil-rich desert kingdom.

In recent days, a cadre of conservative House Republicans allied with Trump has been privately exchanging articles from right-wing outlets that fuel suspicion of Khashoggi, highlighting his association with the Muslim Brotherhood in his youth and raising conspiratorial questions about his work decades ago as an embedded reporter covering Osama bin Laden, according to four GOP officials involved in the discussions who were not authorized to speak publicly.

Those aspersions — which many lawmakers have been wary of stating publicly because of the political risks of doing so — have begun to flare into public view as conservative media outlets have amplified the claims, which are aimed in part at protecting Trump as he works to preserve the U.S.-Saudi relationship and avoid confronting the Saudis on human rights.

A resident of the United States, a journalist, was murdered in cold blood and this is how the president responds?

What have we become?

FB>Pres. Trump’s celebration of a congressman who assaulted a journalist is disgusting. The rapturous cheers from the crowd are deeply disturbing.
The silence from GOP officials is the sound of cowardice. This has not, must not, will not be my America.
A free and independent press must be part of #WhatUnitesUs

“Any guy that can do a body slam, he’s my kind of guy,” Trump told the crowd.

Following the 2017 attack, Gianforte pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault.

Trump praises the violent assault of a reporter.

      His supporters cheer…

Horrific. He’s declared open season on all journalists.

Ready for this? Trump just hit a new low. While at his #MAGAmob rally tonight he praised GOP Rep Gianforte’s body slam of a journalist. He’s applauding the assault of a journalist. WaPo journalist Jamal Khashoggi was just assassinated. He’s giving a thumbs up to Saudi Arabia.
      5:29 PM – Oct 18, 2018

The US has slipped two years ago and is in free fall – #Trump now praises a physical assault against a US @guardian reporter, possibly instigating madmen and rulers around the world to do the same and worse. Black day for the free press.

      And Gianforte and his staff lied about the incident to smear Ben. Only reason Gianforte got caught is because there was a tape. Nothing tough about jumping a reporter for asking you a substantive question. Just unhinged. {the entire GOPee.}

“Any guy that can do a body-slam … is my guy,” Trump told supporters at the rally, adding that he was concerned at first that the incident would jeopardize Gianforte’s campaign.

“I said: ‘Oh, this is terrible, he’s going to lose the election.’ Then I said: ‘Well, wait a minute, I know Montana pretty well, I think it might help him,’ and it did,”

Trump is on a three-state tour in the western part of the United States advocating for Republican candidates who are running for election in November with the hope of keeping control of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives in Republican hands.

“God knows what actually happened in that room, but whatever happened was clearly awful,” ‘
We don’t have all that many friends in the Middle East, right? We have real problems in the Middle East and Saudi Arabia has actually been a friend to the US in many ways.”

He then detailed all of the arms purchases Saudi has pledged to make from the US.

“You cannot be executing journalists … or anybody else. You can’t be doing that. It’s behavior that’s savage ” “At the same time, who are our friends in the Middle East?
What are you going to do, take that and throw all of that away?”

The Saudis were responsible for 911, oil is a terrible bedmate, it makes an administration do terrible thing and tell terrible lies. These nouveau riche backwards religious camel jockeys can’t buy a civilized exterior. When oil is gone they’ll be back tenting around the desert. Can’t be soon enough.

“at an annual event in Sochi”>Putin gloats about new weapons, says U.S. global dominance is ‘almost done’

Putin added that the “hypersonic” weapons (which he has previously compared to a “meteorite” and “ball of fire”), against which the U.S. cannot defend itself, would be the best in the world.

Responding to a question from the audience, he said that while Russia wouldn’t use the weapon — which can reportedly carry a nuclear warhead — in preemptive strike, that “retaliation is inevitable” and that Russians “as victims of aggression, as martyrs, will go to heaven.”
“The aggressors, he said, would “simply die because they won’t even have time to repent.” The audience, reported Agency France-Presse, laughed.

Putin boasted of these hypersonic missiles and other new capabilities, including underwater drones, in March.”

“T was certain the U.S. would have “an extraordinary relationship” with Russia.”

Saudi Arabia just announced that Jamal Khashoggi is dead as the result (and get this lie) from a fight !! they arrested 18 people.

    What have we become?
It should read: what have the REPUBLICANS become, don’t blame the rest of us for their lack of morals.

  6. Lewsiffer October 19, 2018 at 3:42 pm

“What have we become” you ask? We are a second world dictatorship, at the moment, whether we pull ourselves out of this is anyone’s guess. ‘Merika had a decent attempt at Democracy, but being a betting person I’d wager that it’s failing at the moment with little chance of recovery. Too dumb, too lazy and too greedy. Not a recipe for success.

The moves were an abrupt reversal from previous professions of innocence. In an interview with Bloomberg News the day after Khashoggi vanished, Crown prince Mohammed bin Salman said the Washington Post contributor left the premises unscathed. Under mounting international pressure, King Salman ordered an internal investigation last week.

“Why couldn’t they say where they dumped the body?” GOOD QUE$TION.
