President Trump on Tuesday claimed he was blocking current and former administration officials from testifying in the impeachment inquiry to protect future presidents. The statement came one day after a federal judge ruled former White House counsel Don McGahn must appear before a House panel.

Trump argued in a trio of tweets that he “would love to have” McGahn, former national security adviser John Bolton, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney testify. The White House has thus far blocked officials from complying with Democratic requests for testimony in the House impeachment inquiry.

This is, of course, complete bullshit.

It is in the same category as Trump’s tease that he might testify before Congress and his claim that he had no problem releasing his tax returns when his mysterious “IRS”audit” was complete.

As for protecting future presidents, as an American citizen I don’t want any future leaders who engaged in similarly illegal behaviors to be protected.

In fact I want Congress to have the right to issue a subpoena and have that subpoena honored immediately by members of the administration, without regard to whose party is in power at that time.

The only thing that Trump is trying to protect is his own giant orange-tinted ass.
