Donald Trump and his cronies post heavily edited video of Nancy Pelosi in attempt to damage her reputation.

President Donald Trump on Thursday night tweeted out an edited video showing Nancy Pelosi stumbling over her words, escalating the personal attacks he has made against the Democratic House Speaker.

The video, apparently from a segment on Fox Business’ “Lou Dobbs Tonight,” features portions of a 20-minute news conference Pelosi held Thursday in a montage that lasts about 30 seconds. It shows her tripping over her words. At one point in the video, a moment is repeated several times.

Trump tweeted the video hours after he called Pelosi “crazy” and said, “She is not the same person. She has lost it.” It comes a day after Trump cut short a meeting with Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer because he is frustrated with congressional efforts to investigate his administration.

According to experts, the video accurately shows Pelosi making some verbal stumbles but edited them together to inaccurately depict her as suffering from a speech impediment.

That was not the case, however, with some other videos sent out by Trump supporters.

The country’s social media giants are taking heat for videos circulating on their platforms that have been altered to show Speaker Nancy Pelosi slurring her words — the latest incident in a roiling debate over what content companies like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube should allow on their platforms.

The Washington Post first reported on the appearance of the videos, finding that footage of an appearance by Pelosi at the Center for American Progress on Wednesday had been slowed 25 percent, in a manner that made Pelosi’s speech seem impaired. One version posted on a Facebook page called Politics WatchDog had been viewed nearly 2 million times as of Thursday evening and sparked comments like, “Omg is she drunk or having a stroke???” and, “She’s drunk!!!!!!”

Pelosi’s daughter Christine Pelosi was among those objecting to the videos, stating, “Madam Speaker doesn’t even drink alcohol!”

The videos come amid an escalating feud this week between Pelosi and President Donald Trump following a contentious White House meeting over infrastructure policy. Trump abandoned the meeting abruptly, and Pelosi later told reporters that she wished Trump’s “family or his administration or his staff would have an intervention for the good of the country.” Trump later shot back that Pelosi had “lost it.”

On Thursday night, Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor and Trump’s personal attorney, amplified the doctored video by tweeting a version of it along with the lines, “What is wrong with Nancy Pelosi? Her speech pattern is bizarre.” Giuliani later deleted the tweet.

This is yet another one of those times when I almost cannot believe what I am posting to this website.

But sadly this is the state or politics in the era of Trump.

The moron is chief is hardly someone that should be commenting on how someone is speaking. I am sure we can find numerous videos with him slurring his speech. At least Nancy speaks English.

I’m sure when he posted this he knew damn well that this wasn’t real.

It’s a joy to see Pelosi outmaneuver Trump at every turn. And the simple fact that she is a woman twists the knife in him a little more.

Nancy Pelosi shouldn’t apologize for speaking the truth. The Speaker of the House should say it even louder.

“a company spokesperson said Friday that blatantly fake news content, like the Pelosi video, doesn’t technically break any rules because there’s no policy against posting fake content on the platform. Facebook will allow the video to stay up.”

artificial intelligence makes much more sophisticated “deepfakes” possible. The target of such a cyber-impersonation would face the daunting task of proving that something didn’t happen. A candidate caught in a compromising situation could claim the footage was manipulated or fabricated.

The potential for damage led the Pentagon to create a research team dedicated to figuring out ways to spot fake video and audio.

“The most dangerous type of fake news and reporting and evidence is when you get into the fine details, the nuanced things that are shaped to present a certain viewpoint or decision or news a certain way,” Jonathan Albright, research director of the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia University
