Another victory for the good guys.

The former MI6 officer Christopher Steele has won a legal battle in the United States against three Russian oligarchs who sued him over allegations made in his dossier about the Trump campaign and its links with Moscow.

The oligarchs – Mikhail Fridman, Petr Aven and German Khan – claimed that Steele and his intelligence firm, Orbis, defamed them in the dossier, which was leaked and published in early 2017. The Russians own stakes in Moscow-based Alfa Bank. All are billionaires.

On Monday, a judge in the District of Columbia, Anthony C Epstein, upheld a motion by Steele to have the oligarchs’ case thrown out. Epstein did not determine whether the dossier – which Donald Trump has repeatedly dismissed as “fake” – was “accurate or not accurate”.

But the judge concluded that it was covered by the US first amendment, which protects free speech. He ruled that the oligarchs had failed to prove a key part of their case: that Steele knew that some information in the dossier was inaccurate, and had acted “with reckless disregard as to its falsity”.

The ruling is a piece of good news for Steele, who has maintained silence in the face of a mountain of abuse from Trump and his enraged supporters.

Remember, NOTHING in the dossier has been proven inaccurate, some of it has been proven by reporters, and it most certainly has not been discredited.

This is good news for Steele. OT it is not surprising that Trump characterized Cohen as making up lies to get out of trouble in a polar opposite praise that Manafort is brave to not done that and “break” like Cohen did.

    • Anonymous August 22, 2018 at 7:11 am

I am being to think that Manafort has a lot of dirt on trump and the russians and donnie continues to praise him because he hasn’t flipped yet.

Poor Manafort that was convicted for tax evasion from years ago, like that makes in not a crime. Worried much about his own taxes?

So it looks like they are sending out the lackeys to claim that Cohen pleaded guilty to something that wasn’t a crime. I really wish they would explain how that works.

Can’t wait for Rudy to hit the circuit 🙂

‘a “$erial liar” ‘>”Trump said Wednesday he only found out “later on” about payments his former personal lawyer Michael Cohen arranged before the 2016 election to try to silence two women who claimed they had affairs with Trump.” “in an interview with Fox News’ Ainsley Earhardt, Trump gave a different account, a day after Cohen pleaded guilty.

“Later on I knew, later on, but you have to understand Ainsley, what he did — and they weren’t taken out of campaign finance. That’s the big thing. That’s the much bigger thing. Did they come out of the campaign? They didn’t come out of the campaign; they came from me,”
“In fact my first question, when I heard about it, was did they come out of the campaign? Because that could be — a little dicey,””n the interview, which will air in full Thursday morning on Fox News Channel. “And they didn’t come out of the campaign, and that’s big. But they weren’t — it’s not, it’s not even a campaign violation. If you look at President Obama, he had a massive campaign violation, but he had a different attorney general and they viewed it a lot differently.” Cohen has said Trump illegally directed him to make payments to silence women who claimed to have had affairs with Trump in an effort to influence the 2016 election; the president has denied the affairs. Cohen’s lawyer, Lanny Davis, told NPR’s Rachel Martin that his client believes Trump is “both corrupt and a dangerous person in the Oval Office” and that Cohen would not accept a pardon from Trump.”
” On Twitter, Trump praised Manafort, saying he feels badly for him and his “wonderful family.” He added, “Such respect for a brave man!” “It doesn’t involve ME.” ”

The moron in the WH doesn’t know that a felon can’t practice the law. Twitter is really having fun with this one. One comment was something to the effect If anyone is looking for a good president, don’t choose donald trump.

Also paying off someone to keep quite is hardly a record keeping violation, but let’s let him keep deluding himself and his fans.
Cohen’s The Latest: Trump downplays Michael guilty plea
    The Associated Press
….President Donald Trump is seeking to downplay Michael Cohen’s guilty plea to campaign finance violations, suggesting that his former fixer’s admission to federal crimes was akin to record-keeping violations.
Trump tweeted Wednesday that Cohen “plead guilty to two counts of campaign finance violations that are not a crime. ……

Trump tweeted Wednesday: “If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you don’t retain the services of Michael Cohen!”…………..

“The site, which doesn’t promote fake news as much as attempt to sow discord in the United States by pushing hot-button issues such as Black Lives Matter protests, illegal immigration and economic turmoil, shares an office in Washington with the Federal News Agency, an organization owned by Russian billionaire Yevgeny Prigozhin, who was indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller for interference in the 2016 presidential election.” USA Really, Malkevich” said that starting the website proved to him that the U.S. “deep state is real.”

“USA Really’s coverage, which depicts American democracy as suspect, appears designed to provoke a reaction. He was thrown away from YouTube, and his podcasts were deleted from the App Store. I think it is real censorship. It’s so strange to see it in the country with the great Constitution with famous amendments.””On its site, USA Really promotes itself as exposing “crucial information and problems, which are hushed up by the conventional American media controlled by the establishment and oligarchy of the United States,”

“The Obama campaign didn’t do anything illegal, like engage in a conspiracy to hide over the limit contributions to help their candidate win. The Obama campaign violated a reporting rule. They didn’t commit a felony. Trump is falsely equating his felonies with Michael Cohen to Obama” “Trump is going back to that old Fox News/GOP trick of blaming Obama”

Ex-Watergate prosecutor: We need to question legitimacy of Trump’s presidency

…“That is the moment in which the legitimacy of this presidency comes into question,” Velshi noted. “Some crime that may have resulted in the president gaining this presidency, that speaks to the legitimacy of this presidency, the legitimacy of this presidency came under great pressure last night.”

“Of course,” Ackerman replied. “This is what its all about.”

“You’ve got him now involved as a co-conspirator with Michael Cohen, this is not some simple campaign violation,” he concluded.
