Bill which defines abortion as “murder” introduced in Alaska.

The heated debate about abortion bans going on in states throughout the country might be coming to the Alaska Legislature next year.

Rep. David Eastman, R-Wasilla, filed legislation this week to make abortion illegal. The bill, House Bill 178, defines abortion as “murder of an unborn child.”

HB 178 will not be on the Legislature’s agenda until it reconvenes in January 2020.

HB 178 was referred to the House Health and Social Services, Judicial and Finance committees. The Health and Social Services Committee could take it up when the Legislature resumes its regular session in January 2020.

Rep. Ivy Spohnholz, D-Anchorage, is the co-chair of the House Health and Social Services Committee, and told the Associated Press on Friday that she will not hear the bill. She told AP that she has “no interest in making it illegal for women to get an important health care procedure.”

Jessica Cler, the Alaska state director for Planned Parenthood Votes Northwest and Hawaii, said in a statement to the Empire that HB 178 is almost certainly unconstitutional. The U.S. Supreme Court’s 1973 ruling in Roe v. Wade ruled that state regulation on abortion is unconstitutional.

It sounds to me as if this bill is essentially dead in the water, which is only slightly reassuring because I can unequivocally say that if it ever made it to our current governor’s desk he would sign it in a heartbeat.

Currently, our state congress is bulging at the seems with Republicans and so there is every likelihood that another, more carefully worded, version of this bill might be reintroduced.

Did you all notice that the asshole who introduced this bill is from Wasilla?

Yeah, that is the source for all sorts of regressive legislation.

Not that any IMer should be surprised by that.

Speaking as a Southerner — a native Mississippian married to an Alabama lady — I can assure you we Southerners DO NOT HAVE A LOCK on The Stupid. Stupid is everywhere and typically is accompanied by Evil.

Remember: Half the population is below average intelligence, much of that half is well below average and for some reason, a lot of them end up on governing bodies.

How can such a young man, Rep. Eastman from Wasilla, hate women so much already? Does it have something to do with the water in Wasilla? This Republican war on women and children has become increasingly insane with each day now.

And where, oh where, is the medical community? It is obvious that these legislators proposing this nonsense know absolutely nothing about women’s bodies or about how pregnancy works and, yet, no doctors come forward to educate them. I see that as a failure of doctors to follow the Hippocratic oath. They are, in fact, doing great harm to the women, pregnant of not, whom they treat every day. Abortion is not “murder” and the six- or eight-week fetal heartbeat is not a “heart beat.”

And then, there is the enormous problem that Republican lawmakers are very eager to have children born but will not take any fiscal responsibility in providing children or their families with healthcare, childcare options, education, housing, job opportunities or necessary social safety networks.

And, of course, there is the never-mentioned issue of the role of the putative “father” in all of this who, frequently, wants nothing to do with the woman or girl he impregnates, once he’s had his “fun.” Then, he blames her for the pregnancy and disappears forever. At some point in time, GOP legislators around the country need to learn that the guy should have to “pay a price.” Of course, with the GOP, it’s all about punishing the woman or girl.

Gee, did the marches around the country (and the world) just after Don the Con was inaugurated anger men that much?

“We have some horrific practices that are now possible by medical science, such as screening for abortion,” Cotton said, “for people who may want to select for a male child instead of a female child or who look for various kinds of genetic defects or indicators. And they want to abort a child that may not even have those illnesses or those diseases when they’re born.”

All this is to sound the drum for the crazies to get out and vote. Whipping up the anti abortion fever turns any election into a single issue election.

Maybe it is time this goes to the Supreme Court and put an end the “beating the dead horse” every election. At least we would know where we stand and if the Supreme Court strikes it down maybe women will join forces vote out these men.

If ya thought wasiller begat just sarah then youd be wrong. They are begatting more of them that all wants you to be barefoot and pregnant. That make america great thingy? Thats real. It translates, me caveman you woman! I hoped we would not go back but as the democrats dicker the republican long sought out plans comes to fruition. And ask yourself why all of a sudden is there not only divide in our nation but in the democratic party when previously it was the republicans that was at odd with itself? Putin, of coarse. Divide and conquer war tactic and covert propaganda at work.

One thing I’ve noticed about these pro-lifers is the lack of concern about IVF. Oh, they hate stem cell research, because it destroyed embryos, but they have no issue with fertility clinics. Fertility clinics regularly dispose of embryos, but they don’t seem to give a damn. Probably because they aren’t currently implanted in a woman’s body. And I assume they hate stem cell research because it might actually help somebody.

Another gripe I have is how far should this sanctity of life bullshit go? I’m a 32 year old woman who has never been pregnant. I’ve been having my period for about 20 years now. So every 28 days, for the last 20 years, a potential human life inside of me has been extinguished, just because of the mere fact that I’m living and not pregnant. Am I a serial killer?

Of course, if we’re talking potential human life, every male who has ever came has killed vastly more potential human lives than us ladies ever will. So conservative men, please stop coming in your pants every time you hear Trump talk about the wall. You’re murdering billions of white babies!

IVF doesn’t involve SEX. So it’s okay.

    • Anonymous May 19, 2019 at 3:15 pm

Your never going to win the argument with science, this is all about their so called religion because if they were really Pro Life , they would be Pro Gun Control since there are far more “babies” killed by guns than are aborted.

At least one in three Alaska villages has no local law enforcement. Sexual abuse runs rampant, public safety resources are scarce, and Gov. Mike Dunleavy wants to cut the budget.

  9. Anonymous May 19, 2019 at 3:13 pm

The sickos are going to the media here in Michigan and saying how awful it is that they are chopping off the heads of babies and sawing off their limbs or ripping or tearing their limbs off ( no I am not making this up) and the women should have to listen to the baby screaming while the doctor does the procedure.

How about the screaming babies that are being gun down by automatic weapons?, that is ok with them, but a deformed fetus being aborted has more rights than the adults making the decisions.

They are getting really graphic, using inflammatory words to rile up the base.
