Bill Barr now refusing to testify before the Democratically controlled House.

Attorney General William P. Barr told a House panel on Wednesday that he will not testify about special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s report, raising the prospect that Democrats will hold the nation’s top law enforcement official in contempt of Congress.

Barr had been scheduled to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday about his handling of Mueller’s report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

But Barr balked as the committee wanted a counsel to question him alongside lawmakers, a snub of the congressional panel that angered Democrats.

I actually think that Barr realizes he really stepped in it during the Senate hearing today and is afraid of what the House Democrats will do with those slip-ups tomorrow.

Senate Democrats already gave him a taste of what that might feel like.

SEN. MAZIE HIRONO: Mr. Barr, the American people know you are no different from Rudy Giuliani or Kellyanne Conway, or any of the other people who sacrifice their once decent reputation for the grifter and liar who sits in the oval office. You once turned down a job offer from Donald Trump to represent him as his private attorney. At your confirmation hearing, you told Sen. Feinstein that, quote, “The job of Attorney General is not the same as representing the president.”

Yeah, that left a mark.

From what I hear the House Judiciary Committee has every intention of holding this hearing whether Barr shows up or not.

So I imagine that the Attorney General will spend the day hiding under his bed.

During the Kavanaugh hearings the all-white male, Republicans hired an outside female attorney to question Christine Blasey Ford. So having attorneys question anyone testifying before Congress is not unprecedented.

Personally, I think the Attorney General (who looks like Fred Flintstone), has been promised a future seat on the Supreme Court by Trump and that is what motivates him right now.

“To see an Attorney General scuriolsy echo the raving rhetoric of his president against a justice department brought a sadness even more than anger. Have we sunk so low?”

FB Excerpts>”Today a deep and corrosive cynicism was on display in the U.S. Senate. It was a shameful chapter in American history abetted by those who would happily trample the safeguards of our democracy in the service of a president who sees our Department of Justice as his own private protector and cudgel.” “What is so discouraging is those who line up behind him to debase themselves and harm our nation.
William Barr is clearly at the top of the list.”
William Barr cares nothing for that, or the judgement of history. He sees his job as preserving, protecting, and defending the president against any and all legitimate inquiry. This is a cynicism meant to delay, distract and deceive from the administrations of truth and justice. ”
“We were attacked by a foreign power during the 2016 election, and their goal by whatever means, was to destabilize our institutions of democracy. The Russians wanted us to forsake the very freedoms that have made us strong. And whether through active conspiracy or through a tacit sharing of objectives, these destructive forces have found a witting ally in the president.”
“Our officials, the men and women we pay with our tax dollars, owe us accountability.
President Trump cares nothing for the women and men who pledge him loyalty beyond what that loyalty means for his needs.”

Remember when trump wrote his own letter about what great health he was in? Remember way back when trump called in to a radio station and bragged about his prowess? Remember the other day when trump said he was the youngest? Haw haw haw. What a clown. An american clown. Wonder if putin gets embarrassed sometime at his american asset in the oval office?

Senate Democrats don’t have the power to impeach Barr until they take back the majority. Meanwhile, the Republicans are simply trying to run out the clock until the pendulum swings back to the Democrats, at which point they can rain down presidential pardons on all and sundry, while screaming that anyone who looks into these matters any further is persecuting political enemies. Will that work? Oh, almost certainly.

“Chicken Barr should have shown up and answered questions!” he said while holding up a fake chicken. “An attorney general who’s picked for his legal acumen would not be fearful of any other attorneys questioning him for 30 minutes! This man was picked to be Roy Cohn and Donald Trump’s fixer!”

“I am certain that there is no way forward for this country that does not include a reckoning with this clear and present danger to our constitutional order.

The President Will Not Become A Monarch

Nadler closed the hearing by vowing that he will not let Trump become a monarch, “We will defend the prerogatives of Congress. We will defend the rights of the American people to know what is going on. We will defend the constitutional scheme of equal and coordinated branches of government. We will make sure that no president becomes a monarch. We need the information without delay.””

” Now that is not just the president can obstruct justice that is the president can’t be investigated if the president doesn’t want to be investigated.”

Clinton added, “And that is the road to tyranny. That is what authoritarians believe and those who service them argue. And as a young lawyer on the Watergate investigation back in 1974, that would have been unthinkable for either a Democrat or a Republican to argue that. And the Saturday Night Massacre occurred because the attorney general and other high-ranking officials in the Justice Department would not do what President Nixon wanted them to do, which was basically stop investigating me. “

The House could hold Barr in contempt of Congress, which means that the Attorney General would be found to be obstructing the work of the House. The House could arrest and detain Barr, but that is not going to happen because it hasn’t been done since 1935, and Barr is protected by armed FBI agents. They could pursue criminal contempt, but the DOJ run by Barr would have to prosecute the attorney general. They could also pursue a civil contempt charge. The House could sue Barr in civil court which is what Nancy Pelosi did when she successfully defeated the Bush administration.

O’Donnell said Conway had been “illegally campaigning against Joe Biden for Donald Trump while holding her position on the federal payroll.”

It was in violation of the Hatch Act, O’Donnell noted, which states that a federal employee “may not use his or her official authority or influence for the purpose of interfering with or affecting the result of an election.”

O’Donnell said Conway also violated another section of the act that “prohibits campaigning at federal buildings, which the White House most certainly is.”

“She’s breaking the law when she talks about candidate Joe Biden,”
