Before being shown the door DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen stopped program that would have seen thousands of immigrant families arrested.

So Secretary Nielson was terrible, just not round up innocent people on the streets and throw them in a dungeon terrible.

In the weeks before they were ousted last month, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and top immigration enforcement official Ronald Vitiello challenged a secret White House plan to arrest thousands of parents and children in a blitz operation against migrants in 10 major U.S. cities.

According to seven current and former Department of Homeland Security officials, the administration wanted to target the crush of families that had crossed the U.S.-Mexico border after the president’s failed “zero tolerance” prosecution push in early 2018. The ultimate purpose, the officials said, was a show of force to send the message that the United States was going to get tough by swiftly moving to detain and deport recent immigrants — including families with children.

The sprawling operation included an effort to fast-track immigration court cases, allowing the government to obtain deportation orders against those who did not show for their hearings — officials said 90 percent of those targeted were found deportable in their absence. The subsequent arrests would have required coordinated raids against parents with children in their homes and neighborhoods.

But Vitiello and Nielsen halted it, concerned about a lack of preparation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, the risk of public outrage and worries that it would divert resources from the border.

Senior Trump adviser Stephen Miller and ICE Deputy Director Matthew Albence were especially supportive of the plan, officials said, eager to execute dramatic, highly visible mass arrests that they argued would help deter the soaring influx of families.

So I guess there are degrees of terrible within the Trump Administration.

There is level one terrible, in which you are terrible enough to actually want to be part of the Trump Administration but you are not down with all of the horrible things the administration does to others.

Then there is level two terrible, in which you belong to the administration and are totally cool with all of the horrible policies and decisions that come out of the White House.

Level three terrible is where you are not only totally onboard with the terrible things done by the administration but you are willing to put your name to it, or even present it publicly yourself on Fox News.

Level four is essentially the John Bolton and Stephen Miller level of terrible. That is the level where the terrible ideas are actually ones that you thought up yourself and then convinced Trump to implement.

I would label that the “Dick Cheney level of terrible.”

Don’t get me wrong, the entire White House deserves to suffer the same fate that Daenerys’ dragon inflicted on King’s Landing Sunday night. I just think some should have to burn longer than others.

I’m patiently awaiting Eric Trump to walk up to his sperm donor during a photo op and say Daddy, my zipper’s stuck.

So, when the administration dumps bus loads of asylum-seeking immigrants in “blue” states with nothing more than bus transfers, what happens next? Will they then be rounded up and arrested for being illegal immigrants? Isn’t this some kind of vicious circle that these poor benighted people can never escape from?

“Denying American married couples their rights to pass their citizenship, that is flat-out discrimination, and everyone should be concerned about this.”

“Hundreds of Transportation Security Administration officials—including air marshals—are being redeployed to the southern U.S. border with Mexico to help deal with migrant inflows, CNN reports, in a move the Trump administration admits brings “some risk” to air security. As many as 175 law-enforcement officials and 400 staff from security ops could reportedly be moved to the border, with some parts of TSA being asked to contribute 10 percent of its workforce. To begin with, the redeployment will not involve uniformed airport screeners. “We also understand that we are accepting some risk as we enter a very busy summer,” wrote senior TSA official Gary Renfrow, who called the effort an “additional challenge.” The teams will be drawn from six cities, according to CNN’s sources, and will mainly be made up of staff who carry out behind-the-scenes security work. Officials expect the groups to include federal air marshals, who are tasked with flying in plain clothes on commercial flights to prevent terrorist hijackings.”<thedailybeast
