Another mass shooting, this one in a California country western bar.

Another senseless shooting brought to you by impotent politicians and the NRA.

Courtesy of NYT:

An armed man dressed in black opened fire late Wednesday night inside a crowded country and western dance hall in Thousand Oaks, Calif., killing at least 12 people, including a sheriff’s deputy who had responded to the scene. The gunman was also dead.

The shooting came just over a year after 58 people were killed at a country music festival in Las Vegas when a gunman opened fire from a high-rise hotel room. There was an eerie parallel between the two shootings as some of the same people who emerged from the bar, the Borderline Bar & Grill, described having survived the shooting on the Las Vegas Strip.

Witnesses recalled a chaotic scene at the bar, which was filled with hundreds of people, many of them college students: A gunman opening fire, first at a security guard, as patrons dropped to the dance floor, hid under tables and broke windows to escape.

The number of people wounded was unclear, but the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said about 22 people had been taken to various hospitals.

The county sheriff, Geoff Dean, his voice cracking, identified one victim as Sgt. Ron Helus, who was shot when he entered the building.

“He died a hero because he went, he went in to save lives, to save other people’s lives,” Sheriff Dean said.

This Sheriff Dean also said that there were about six off-duty police officers in the bar when the shooting occurred, and yet there was little they could do to stop the mayhem until the suspect turned the gun on himself.

The suspect was a 29-year-old former Marine with a history of mental health issues and brushes with the law. He purchased his gun legally. It had an extended clip.

This shooting takes place only five days after the shooting in that Florida yoga studio, and a little over a week after the synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh.

Survivors of Las Vegas shooting were at California bar shOOting.

“killing 58 people and leaving 851 injured from gunfire and the resulting panic. The shooting occurred between 10:05 and 10:15 p.m. PDT; about an hour later Paddock was found dead in his room from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His motive remains unknown.”

Our weekly massshooting, courtesy of 2nd amendment worshipers, spineless politicians, and the NRA. We are ALL sitting ducks when we go about our daily mundane business. Who knows when someone with an ax to grind suddenly decides to go off the deep end and murder innocents just living their lives. The United States is as dangerous as any 3rd world country. Can you imagine if these mass shootings were happening in another country? There would be travel warnings cautioning tourists. Here, it’s just another day.

I’ve been saying this same comment for years now. A country with these many mass shootings would be listed on the State dept website as a place not to visit. Well, at least they would have been listed when we had an actual State dept. that was fully staffed.

    More dead kids. So?
THIS is the future the NRA wanted.
No need to cry. This is what America wanted. Yes, it is. This is the future we Americans wanted, this one right here. This bloody future is what we wanted.
Oh yes it is and don’t protest that it isn’t.
This is exactly what we wanted, the ability for every American to kill on a mass scale.
    And we got it.
    Congratulations, America, on your success.”

I am worried that we are immune to it. Myself, I feel so defeated that it like I’m resolved to it. Another one. Fuck. Another one. We need to organize in a major way. Not go to work. Not pay taxes. Do something to make a difference. What can we do?

I have no more tots and pears to give.
And the good guy with the gun was among the first killed.
Another white male, who became a crazy killing machine thanks to the US military, is the gunman.
    Well done Murikkka.
This country is a fucking laughing stock.

NEWBURY PARK (CBSLA) — The Thousand Oaks shooter’s high school track coach says that he assaulted her.

“I turned on the news and I was watching it and when they said his name my jaw just dropped,” said Dominique Colell.

“He attacked me. He attacked his high school track coach,” said Colell. “Who does that?”

For the former Newbury Park High School track coach this day has been full of emotions — from sadness to guilt. Because she never filed charges against Long after she says he assaulted her his senior year.

Colell says it happened during practice when someone found a phone and she was trying to figure out who it belonged to.

“Ian came up and started screaming at me that was his phone,” said Colell. “He just started grabbing me. He groped my stomach. He groped my butt. I pushed him off me and said after that — ‘you’re off the team.’ “

But Colell says she was encouraged by other coaches and the school to accept an apology to not ruin his future in the Marine Corps.

“I should have reported it then,” said Colell.

And although she never would have predicted this, Colell says she doesn’t believe this is just a case of PTSD. She says Long had issues long before he was ever a Marine.

“There are hundreds of thousands of people with PTSD,” said Colell. “They don’t go around shooting people. This kid was mentally disturbed in high school. There were signs and the administration knew it.”

They could have sent him out of state to play hockey…maybe he was already too angry or fucked up to try that?

How many times does it have to be pointed out that men who commit mass shootings overwhelmingly have a history of abusing women?

        Replying to @emmaladyrose @letsgomathias

And further, that these abuses get swept under the rug. It’s almost like one effective method of limiting mass shootings in the US is actually providing consequences for sexual violence and abuse?

    804pm, read this:

The mythological King is dead, says Robert Bly, leaving our boys and men with guns, addiction, toxic patriarchy, violence, etc.

Of course, Evangelicalism is at the extreme end of pushing and peddling a systemic misunderstanding the human condition, as a cult does. Hmm.

    Read Bly’s book, Iron John.
