Embattled Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta is resigning, President Donald Trump said Friday.

Acosta had faced mounting criticism in recent days for his role years ago in cutting a deal for sex offender Jeffrey Epstein more than a decade ago that critics have called too lenient.

Epstein, 66, was arrested over the weekend and charged in the Southern District of New York with sex trafficking dozens of girls as young as 14 in New York and Florida.

In an earlier case, in 2008, Epstein pleaded guilty to procuring a person under 18 for prostitution and felony solicitation of prostitution, which required him to register as a sex offender and serve about a year in a Florida county jail. He was able to leave almost daily for work, and was allowed to have his own private security detail behind bars.

Acosta, who was the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida at the time of the original Epstein criminal case, has faced calls from Democrats to resign his Cabinet post following the latest Epstein charges.

Acosta attempted to keep his job with that news conference on Wednesday, but it immediately faced blowback from journalists, legal experts, and even a former Florida state attorney:

Acosta became too much of a liability for Trump in the end and so he had to be cut loose.

So yesterday Trump had to back off his attempt to put the citizenship question on the census and today he loses his Labor Secrteary after going to bat for him in front of the press.

Not a good couple of days for the orange tinted toddler.

Who leaned on Acosta a decade ago to go easy on Epstein?

“China and Russia and, try, North Korea, where I have a relationship,” he said. “You don’t have them testing nuclear anymore. Wait, wait. You have a man that was so happy to see me. That’s a good thing, not a bad thing. You have a man that doesn’t smile a lot, but when he saw me, he smiled, he was happy. You have a man, when I came into office, all he was doing before, under Obama, was testing nuclear weapons and blowing up mountains, and now he’s not doing it.”-““The Democrats aren’t working, all they’re doing is trying to hurt people like Alex Acosta,”“The man who has done — a man who — I have no idea. Are you a Democrat? I have no idea. You know what I know about Alex? He was a great student at Harvard. He is Hispanic, which I so admired because maybe it was a little tougher for him, maybe not. But he did an unbelievable job as the secretary of labor. That’s what I know about him. I know one thing. He did a great job, and until this came up, there was never an ounce of problems with this very good man.””

Mueller’s highly-anticipated Capitol Hill testimony will be delayed one week under a tentative arrangement he reached with House Democrats, according to multiple sources briefed on the discussions.

Although it’s unclear why Mueller’s testimony was delayed until July 24, lawmakers familiar with the matter said one reason was an ongoing negotiation about how much time they would have to question the former special counsel.

Sen. @KamalaHarris criticizes Alex Acosta’s role in the 2008 Jeffery Epstein plea deal, calling the way he described it as “troubling, disheartening, and unbelievable”: “He let this guy go with nothing but a simple, very light pat on the hand.”

“No one touches Donald Trump’s penis without a glove.”

Office of the Assistant Secretary for Policy

Acosta has proposed an 80 percent cut to the Bureau of International Labor Affairs’ budget.

The Bureau of International Labor Affairs works to improve working conditions, raise living standards, protect workers’ ability to exercise their rights, and address the workplace exploitation of children and other vulnerable populations.

Acosta broke the law years ago with the plea deal, that must be ok with trump because in his statement to the press he said he had nothing to do with Acosta resigning. In other words, little donnie was ok with another law breaker in his administration.

I also had to laugh that little donnie brought up the fact that Acosta is Hispanic and went to Harvard, as to say, see I hired a Hispanic and those meanie Democrats want him out.

How many “great people” have been fired or resigned from this administration? Oh well, I am sure the donald will find another sewer dweller to replace him.

LOL, only the best, winning !!!!
Trump’s Record Of Ethically Tainted Cabinet Departures Rises With Acosta’s Exit

President Donald Trump has lost more of his Cabinet secretaries to corruption and other ethics concerns in his first term than any other president in U.S. history.
… the total number of ethics-related Cabinet-level departures in the Trump administration has reached five. This is an ignominious record for a president who claimed he would “drain the swamp” in Washington and eliminate corruption. The president has instead run one of the most corrupt administrations in American history with lax oversight, nepotism, self-dealing and the appointment of dozens of lobbyists to oversee the industries they previously worked for.

….The five Cabinet secretaries who have left or are leaving the Trump administration under clouds of alleged corruption are former Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price, former EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, former Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin, former Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and Acosta. …..

Collateral damage. And every congressman that confirmed him is going to lay low and keep their mouths shut. Epstein donated to a lot of Democrats but Trump and the GOP can’t attack them because of Acosta’s confirmation and all those parties Trump attended.

I’ll bet Trump is terrified of what Epstein might say.
