Murkowski statement: “I have come to the conclusion that there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed.” pic.twitter.com/jNQU3BfbzP

Here is what her tweet states fro those who can not see it:
“I worked for a fair, honest, and transparent process, modeled after the Clinton trial, to provide ample time for both sides to present their cases, ask thoughtful questions, and determine if we need more.”
“The House chose to send articles of impeachment that are rushed and flawed. I carefully considered the need for additional witnesses and documents, to cure the shortcomings of its process, but ultimately decided I will vote against considering motions to subpoena.”
“Considering the partisan nature of this impeachment form the beginning and throughout, I have come to the conclusion there will be no fair trial in the Senate. I don’t believe the continuation of this process will change anything. It is sad for me to admit that, as an institution, the Congress has failed.”
“It has also become clear that some of my colleagues intend to further politicize this process, and drag the Supreme Court in to the fray, while attacking the Chief Justice. I will not stand for nor support that effort. We have already degraded this institution for partisan political benefit, and I will not enable those who wish to pull down another,”
“We are sadly at a low point of division in this country.”
Interestingly enough there is much in Murkowski’s bullshit excuse with which I agree.
Yes, the case will not get a fair trial in the Senate, but that has nothing to do with the Congress since Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham both said thier minds were made up before the House had even finished their hearings.
Yes, members have degraded both the Senate and the House with political infighting and a complete abandonment of their respect for the Constituton. Well at least on one side of the aisle.
However rather than rising above it and serving as an ethical model for others, Lisa has simply thrown up her hands and allowed Mitch McConnell to prostitute the Senate to the whims of Donald Trump to be used harshly and then tossed aside when he is finished.
And finally, yes we are at a low point of division in this country.
But for a bright fleeting moment she had the opportunity to lead us out of the darkness and instead placed party loyalty over patriotism as those of us in Alaska always knew she would.
