Still travesty of justice.

Courtesy of NPR:

The Florida state attorney’s office says a woman who turned her husband’s guns in to authorities will face a misdemeanor trespassing charge, and that she will not be charged with burglary.

Her husband was under arrest for domestic violence charges, accused of ramming her car with his, when the woman brought his guns to police.

Police had originally charged Courtney Irby, 32, with armed burglary and grand theft after she took her husband’s guns from his home and gave them to police. She spent six days in jail on the charges.

The couple was divorcing, and Ms. Irby had obtained a temporary injunction against her husband, Joseph Irby, 35.

NPR’s Sasha Ingber reported that Ms. Irby’s family says she “took the weapons to police out of fear for her and her children’s safety. ‘My sister was hysterical,’ Haley Burke told a local news site. ‘She knew that this just poked the bear, and he would be coming after her.’ “

Ms. Irby’s arrest sparked outrage and criticism that it would discourage victims of domestic violence from going to the police.

Six days?

That is such bullshit.

the husband was told by the police to hand in his guns.

All his wife did was follow that directive for him while he was incarcerated for trying to kill her.

She should receive a fucking medal, not jail time.

And the sad part is that he’ll probably get more guns immediately. I hope she gets far away from him.

I thought that she deserved a medal! She performed a great service to her community and to her family.

She would be prudent to relocate and get a new identity. I hope she has had offers for free self defense classes and firearms class given he tried to kill her already before she turned his guns in.

I’m glad the charges were reduced. But, even a misdemeanor is too severe given the circumstances. She was protecting herself.

    Fuck guns.

If you shoot someone when in fear of your life, you’re a hero. If you take weapons away from a domestic abuser because you’re in fear for your life, you go to jail.

I can’t help but think that the lesson here is that she should have bought her own gun, provoked the SOB, and then shot his ass when he came after her. Which is absurd. She did the smartest, least violent thing, and got arrested for it.

Like how you commended her choice and pointed out it was an option to arm her self and kill him.

Jesus is but a Stock Photo for the now and here. Think a literal Jesus elsewhere is coming? Good news, “he” is here – grab a mirror, or even better, all of which is alive (which is everything) IS Jesus.

Believing is for the ignorant, Not believing is for the ignorant –
it’s always been about realization of identity, this life experience OF “god”, of “our selves”. We ARE that living link in form, an interdependence, dependent-arising. Where there’s separation, the lights are out and the lesson and connection are lost.

He was jailed for one day.

    She was jailed for five.

He was locked up for a day for trying to kill her.

She was locked up for five days for taking action to stay alive.

That’s how much women are respected in this country.

Well, if the D.A. and police won’t listen to her then maybe she just needs to use Florida’s “stand your ground law”.

If she is anything like Melania, she will leave her withering soul at the curb, and take what he gives her.
