Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, who on March 13 told a group of seniors that fears of the “beer virus” have been overblown by the media, on Thursday delivered a very different message.
“Weeks ago I did not fully grasp the severity of this crisis, but clearly, we are in the midst of an urgent public health emergency,” Young said in a video published to YouTube and distributed by his office. As of Thursday night, 69 cases of coronavirus had been confirmed in Alaska and one Alaska resident had died of the virus while out of state, according to the state health department.
“This pandemic is dangerous and … is especially threatening our senior citizens, of which I am one,” said Young, who is 86, and skipped the House vote on a federal coronavirus relief package the day after his remarks at a Mat-Su senior center. His spokesman, Zack Brown, did not respond to a question asking whether Young will vote for the $2 trillion stimulus bill passed by the Senate.
At the March 13 event, Young told a crowd of about 80 people, more than half of whom were seniors according to one organizer, to “go forth” with everyday activities despite posts made to his own government and campaign social media accounts urging older people to avoid groups. On Thursday, Young said, “I very strongly urge you to follow the CDC recommendations. Avoid large groups and continue to practice social distancing … Observe a 14-day quarantine if you have traveled from out of state.”
This is why you should not listen to elderly Republican politicians during a crisis when facts mean the difference between life and death.
It is long past the time for Don Young to step aside and let somebody who knows how to do the job take over his House seat.
USA is now up to 102,605 cases !!! trump really made America First

Washington, D.C. – Today, Alaska Congressman Don Young was on the House Floor for the quorum call and the subsequent passage of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act – emergency stimulus legislation to combat the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and provide needed relief to families suffering from its widespread economic impacts.
Just watched trump on the tvs. This man is obviously very ill. He needs to be institutionalized for all of our safety.I hate him with a passion but even I find his babbling embarrassing. Lawmakers need to remove him from office before he can do anymore damage. Anyone with any power to do this and does not act should be considered complicit. Whoever says his approval is 60 percent is cooking the numbers. He is lucky if he is able to handle his own pee pee, much less any crisis.

For those wishing to keep track, John Hopkins is tracking.

Yes, the U.S. is still Number One. 101,000+ in confirmed cases.
Italy and Spain are still one and two in deaths. But I don’t suppose Trump is going to let that stop him. Open up and get back to work! MADA. I notice they are not listing U.S. deaths cumulatively but by city so you would have to go through and add them all up. So far, 1,390 deaths and that included Puerto Rico. That ranks us sixth, behind France at 1,995 but in front of the United Kingdom with 759. At the current rate of Trump’s leadership I expect us to surpass France and Iran and give China a run for it’s money. We may have been late to the party but considering deaths are a percentage of confirmed cases our numbers will continue to go up. With Trump’s lack of leadership we’ll continue to see people who don’t take this seriously going out to party, licking toilet seats and in general putting themselves and the rest of us in danger.
It takes a moron to vote for a moron I guess.
Maybe Darwin will remove these idiots from both the voting pool and the gene pool. That might balance the country a bit.
I’m looking at the deaths versus confirmed cases and it looks like it is in the neighborhood of 10%. That means the U.S. can expect somewhere in the 8,000-10,000 deaths range currently, higher considering how many people haven’t been tested or confirmed and that we haven’t peaked yet. If he “opens up areas” and people go back to work, it will be even worse. That may put us in front of Italy in deaths. Trump making us number one again.
We laid bets about two weeks ago, mine was 10,000 deaths out of 500,000 cases- but that was before we saw Trump’s galloping ineptitude, his attempts to have his wealthy supporters turn a profit from the plague, and his lethal bias against New York and California.
Now would be a good time to campaign against Yon Dung- assuming there is still someone in Alaska who hasn’t run against him already. He is clearly a danger to Alaskans and could be even more dangerous if he can’t “fully grasp the severity” of global threats to the United States. Perhaps you can start by putting pressure on Republicans to retire him before he gets somebody killed- and watch them light up.

How did she get all crazy? Wasn’t she normal for a bit?
Politics should have an age cap of 65.
Then the country wouldn’t have Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Thanks for playing.
Have you even been outside today?
ADN”In effect Saturday at 5 p.m., Alaskans are ordered to shelter at home and close all non-essential businesses. As of 8 a.m. Saturday, the state is also banning all non-essential travel within Alaska, to slow the spread of the virus between communities.”
Sarah has to stay six feet away from her drug dealer?
…for a different disease though – the clap.
Sarah’s currently stinking up Austin Tx like things weren’t bad enough there.
